Sony Xperia XZ4 rumored specs suggest 21:9 screen, 3.5 mm audio jack

If the rumors are true, the new flagship might be one of the slimmest smartphones ever.

adude, 05 Dec 2018i will however be impressed if they'll add RAW supportYes, this.
SONY definitely needs to add RAW support to their cutting-edge camera modules/phones.

Is it me, or did everyone else notice this has slim bezels on both sides (better for holding) and within those bezels are two front-firing stereo loudspeakers??

And I hope the device also gets great software support (cue back the Xperia Z2), or at the least gets on the AndroidOne program like Nokia. Not sure about the front display, I hope it is flat enough to install a proper Glass Protector and Case. And I pray the device has documentation, source, drivers, kernels, and an unlocked bootloader to keep Devs and Enthusiasts happy. Perhaps even a port of Jolla/SailfishOS to the new handset?

I'm seriously considering this as my next phone.

It's guaranteed to be a high quality panel, and if it's indeed a LG panel, how come it doesn't have issues? LG is selling better OLED panels to Sony than the ones they use on their own products? That's funny.

Anonymous, 05 Dec 2018No... The idea of higher ISO is to keep shutter faster t... moreI'll take the high ISO with a pinch of salt. While their sensors usually perform better than every other sensors on the same ISO values, a proper stabilization is still a good thing, and while the faster shutter speed would help lessen the motion blur effect, a hardware stabilization would still help it in situations that it cannot compensate.

Huawei still did utilize monochrome sensor for superior low light shots, only that they used it on other purposes as well.
The main difference is the powerful ISP for real-time image fusion, which Huawei phones have lacked.

High ISO image with long shutter speed should only be used at times when it's really needed. Plus, not all times you are going to take a moving subject, so it's the software's duty to identify what's to prioritize in several situations (the SD855's NPU would help here).

I do understand that OIS isn't that fast enough to allow some of their features, but that's why I think it would just be a 2-axis one in order to still maintain an adequately fast image sensor. After all, their action cams even have OIS, so Sony has probably figured it out on how to do this right.

I truly expect SteadyShot to see a huge improvement, since the SD855 must be capable enough to handle the Intelligent Active SteadyShot all the way up to 4K@60fps.

Idk about a 240Hz OLED, but I hope it's at least QHD+ again this time since FHD+ would look quite average at this screen size and ratio.

What Sony needs to work on is by improving its dynamic range through post processing. They should implement a better Auto HDR feature in Superior Auto, and manual HDR must be here already instead of being just in Manual mode.
I don't like iPhones, but the XS Max just absolutely destroyed the XZ2 Premium here: https://youtu.be/0vMgqFvVvzY

So trading one madness for another. Bringing back the 3.5mm jack is a must, but even narrower, remote-control-like screen is unbearable too. Almost like Samsung's massive dead pixel area. WTF is wrong with all these CEOs?

At some point , the Premium will have transparent oled to hide camera.
I have no idea if it will be in 2019 or 2020.

Sony have many projects with LG Display, few days ago a patent of transparent fordable screen was registered.

Shanti Dope, 05 Dec 2018Well to be frank, I think the OIS might just be like a 2-ax... moreNo...

The idea of higher ISO is to keep shutter faster than 1/16s.
With OIS it is no longer necessary, like iphone that can use 1/4s often.

Huawei aproach with monochrome was to increase DR and WB acurracy. It was never meant for low light. It even works only after processing while Sony's works real time.

High Iso with slower shutter will make photo completely white.

Also I was told that some features are not possible with OIS because it slows down speed of the camera. OIS brings jello effect for videos.

I was also told that the SteadyShot will be much stronger this year.

Someome told me this phone has a 240Hz oled from Sharp

Just a fact, 21:9 is an industry standard ratio, and there are many real contents made in that proportion.

On the other hand, I haven't heard a movie that was initially shot in 18:9 or 19:9, or anything that has a cutout on the side (when in landscape) and optimized for notched screens.

Oh yeah, it's too much and unnecessary. It's just a gimmick and nobody needs that much RAM.

What about if they put 8GB RAMMM
Oh yeah, it's nothing different from the rest, hence not an interesting phone and not worth giving a try.

Just about Samsu... moreWell to be frank, I think the OIS might just be like a 2-axis one to enable such features still. You know, it's still better to get some proper hardware stabilization since software alone cannot fix all these problems.
Aube Fusion algorithm would still work. Huawei has been doing this for years until they dropped the monochrome sensor on their flagships.

The rest of your words are very true. Though Sony did apply some heavy sharpening, which makes the noise even more visible, but even without it, it's very clear that the images are very sharp and well-detailed.
It just sucks though, because oversharpening is only acceptable for others but not on Sony.
