AnonD-731363, 08 Dec 2018Man Sony X phones weights much over 200 grams. Like we wa... moreWe are fine with having heavy phone if in return we get exceptional quality. The Z series was heavy specially first 4 iterations and packed outstanding quality so that was really great and worth the extra weight. Can't say the same for X series. If they provide exceptionally great quality build with extra weight for the upcoming XZ4 series then I am completely fine carrying heavy phone.

Finally SONY has come to its senses and back making best and unique smartphones. I am really happy seeing that fingerprint sensor moved back to the best possible implementation on smartphone from the worst. And this will not be sliding as hell.

guv94, 07 Dec 2018If my Z5C "DIES" right now, I would go for XZ1C. But if I a... moreThere were some Z5c dying due to water getting in, and in tear-downs you can see its not as water-tight in the seems as the more current phones (>2016). The bad part is that they didn't get covered under warranty. Also not all Z5c got a fingerprint scanner. Some didn't have it. And others did, but it was driver-deactivated (software) due to some patent/legal issues. Yet all of the Z5c handsets had a microUSB, and not a modern USB-C port.
...so overall, the Sony Xperia XZ1compact is still the most "non-compromise" design of the bunch. That is no way meant to discount the innovation that went into the original Z3c and Z5c devices, and if I had one still going strong, like yourself I also wouldn't upgrade it.
And personally I prefer the 16:9 aspect ratio, to have a physically smaller device, and use the on-screen Navigation buttons (which hide when not needed). But being a numberphile, I must say the best aspect ratio for the screen would've been 1:1.41 (or Root2).

Who are you to tell us what is a compact phone? You are Just a user living in the past. People!! Hello? Look around your self! The most compact phones of today are 5.5 and 5.6" screen phones. 5.1 and 5.2" screen size are considered compact in their time, until march 2017. Just because you want to be smaller, that doesen't mean they are not compact in their time.
If I would mention my xperia x10 as a real compact with 3.2", does that mean that xperia z1 compact is too big? The answer is yes, if we compare it in the same time period. But they are not belong to the same time period.
So what is with this nonsense about measures? People complaining about 5mm tallness. Is there any ISO9010 official rule about how small phone must be to be considered as compact?
No, there isn't. Maybe you wish for to be topped at 135mm, but in that case I could stay a little longer in my past and say...
Everything above 3.2 screen is not compact any more.
People are never satisfated.

4.6" days are over. You can shrink the 5.7" screen to compact size on the xz2 using the one handed mode

It should be illegal to call anything compact or mini what is bigger than 4.6 inches.

Does anyone remember the xperia ray? How I wish phones can be that small again with much smaller bezels do accomodate for the 18:9 screen. I don't care about thickness as long as the phone has a 3000mah battery. Just my opinion

This is not a compact ....a compact should be no more than 130....maybe 135 max.
Sony is missing the boat by not producing smaller.
