xenon2, 07 Dec 2018too good to be true :)no such thing as good or not about it

acemang, 07 Dec 2018Thanks for the response, but how regular are the updates? ... moreSo far i have received the security patch for every single month until September 2018. Usually the update arrives within the first two weeks of the month. Mine was a upper-midrange so it took a while for the update to arrive. Usually the Sony flagships get the updates before that

Still too early to comment on anything. However 139mm is too tall. A 5 inch 16:9 Redmi 4 is 139x70mm with a decent 71% screen to body ratio. And that has navigation buttons on the bottom bezel so you get the full screen experience and straightforward navigation without the gesture complications.

I know many would think it as a step back, but after two phones with on screen navigation buttons and one with the buttons on the bezel, I prefer them on the bezel. Bezels don't matter. Screen size and your fingers' ability to reach all corners of the screen is what matters.

Perhaps Sony should revert to the XZ1 Compact footprint and use the bezels for navigation and other components. For reference, a ZL had a 76% STB ratio. 73 to 76 in a footprint housing a 4.5 to 4.7 inch screen without navigation buttons eating up screen real estate is ideal. It gives some semblance of design and protection in this madness for fragile, massive screens. Only my opinion.

It looks like they have brought the 3.5mm jack back.

I don't like stock Android, it is very lack lustre. I used to like older version of Android, they looked a lot nicer, then today Android versions.

My Htc 10 got 2 years updates, 2 major updates, last beeing Android 8, and only got 3 updates in each year.
My Htc 11 got 1 major update, waiting for Pie (second update) and I guess it will die there.
Security updates are a joke, again, 3 in a year with luck.
I need a phone with regular updates (I'm an app developer). I don't care about 2 years updates or 3 years but if they only update the device once a year I can't tolerate that. Bugs can't take a year to be corrected. I'm pissed with HTC because of their updates (or lack off), so I will change brand next year.
If Sony gives good, solid constant updates I will consider. My friend have an Xiaomi Mi A1, and she have updates every month. If something is broken in one month, the next it will be fixed. With Htc, I pray nothing will be broken in next update, because I will wait 3/6months to get it fixed.

I wrote a comment before but for some reason wasn't posted. Sony 139.9 mm tall is not compact at all. Just make a phone like sony xz1 compact ,with round corners instead, and volume buttons on the same place and not square . A little bit thinner also like 8mm, is that so hard to make a phone like that?

Don't you guys want compact phones? Why do you care about bezels? The bezels are there to rest our thumbs when we're watching content without touching the screen. I don't want our fingers to block content.

According to YouTube, Sony fans don't exist.

But if I actually wait and save money, therefore I want the device I choose to have the longest possible period of usage before it's dropped by Sony, XZ1C does not stand strong, as it is already over 1 year old (usually Sony devices are dropped right after 2 years, where they enter an unpredictable state, where it's up to Sony to make such decision and they don't even express it clearly so you don't know)

shortkey, 07 Dec 2018Anything above 4.6" and 125mm height is NOT COMPACT.It is in today's world. Large phones used to be considered 5.7" and the average was 5". Now we get 6.4" phones and the average is around 5.8". So this is compact compared to the current average.

I'd not welcome that but would I accept it to get back the 3.5mm jack and the fingerprint sensor back where it should be? Maybe.

I find these renders hard to believe as there is no dedicated camera button. Sony has always had a dedicated external camera button along side of the power and volume rocker buttons and that doesn't show here. especially given that these renders seem to suggest a throwback to the older phone design I find it even harder to believe there'd be no camera button.
