HMD has sold around 70 million Nokia phones in two short years

07 December 2018
Founded on December 1 2016, the company that brought back the Nokia brand to phones is off to a great start. But there are challenges ahead.

Too bad they revived it with android instead of using a proper mobile OS that is on par with Apple's iOS...
I loved Nokia, but it's just a name now. It has lost its European design and ideology behind their products and just follows bad trends now. (android, google, chinese, copying features, etc.)

Maybe it's time HMD made all of their devices bootloader unlockable? We'd get faster updates and stick to version we prefer. Nothing says "we love you customers" like open source (htc hd2 open source, not asus zenfone 4 pro).

I get the feeling that HMD is still testing the market to focus on that. Don´t follow the same strategy like most brands do , realise each month a new phone.....it will confuse the customers.

Nokia just need to consolidate and simplify their line a bit more and have defined segments. Even their naming convention can work in tandem with Qualcomm chips (although I wouldn't mind seeing some of Mediatek's competent offerings thrown in).

Simply put you've got Snapdragon 4xx, 6xx, 7xx and 8xx to go into the Nokia 4.x, 6.x, 7.x and 8.x. Each segment could then have a "standard" sized model and a larger sized "plus" variant.

At the moment, without checking out the specs, I've no idea where the models currently sit in the range.

HMD handle research, design and development in conjunction with Nokia Technologies. Foxconn handle testing and manufacturing. It's like Apple but on a smaller scale.

When you have nothing to do and your head is emtpy, you put a nick name as this trolley here and go on Nokia comment sections to start telling people the same s''t over and over and over and over again. More boring then this it ain't gonna get, this is allready at the lowest point.

HMD doesn't even seem to do anything besides oversee production. FIH Mobile, the Foxconn subsidiary, is who really designs the phones.

And no, there's no Finns on the board of directors, but that's not how a board of directors work either. The board of directors are elected by the shareholders, the biggest of which seem to be the Swiss former senior VP at Nokia. The shareholders pick people based on skills and work experience in order to make their stocks improve. They do not fill these positions based on ethnic origins.

All of the board members except for Ivan formerly held high positions within the Nokia Corporation.

I contributed with one of those sales. Currently using the Nokia 7.1 as my daily phone. Very satisfied.
My only complaint is the bad camera. Worse than my older phone. Battery could be better, but it gets the job done.

Do you only care how people look, and judge them from that? I don't know how your geography skills are doing, but Taiwan is a different country, and not one that is on friendly terms with China.

So 1 out of 5 people are originally from China. That's not half the board. And Sam Chin, the Chinese fellow, used to work with Nokia before it got sold off to Microsoft. So it's not a new face to the organisation.

You also can't tack on "also more in lower staff" as you have absolutely no idea. Post evidence or stop spreading lies. Do you think there's thousands of Chinese people living in Finland just to work at Nokia? The Chinese staff are involved in the manufacturing of the phones at Foxconn in China, just like Google and Apple does it. They're not a part of HMD.

And I'm not sure why his ethnicity even matters. The company is located in Finland, run by primarily Finns and mainly getting investments from a Swiss investor via Ginko Ventures.
