If they really degraded the battery faster there would be 100,000s of OnPlus, Huawei etc... owners with batteries lasting far less than they did a year or two since purchase and there would definitely be a few lawsuits.

Sigh, I still find this whole ongoing Android vs Apple argument for the past 8 years kinda sad really; is it so difficult to like both and have the best of worlds?

This is a BATTERY issue, not CHARGING. Whether you're using QuickCharge, Warp, Dash, VOOC, Huawei Super Charge etc etc; they will all negatively affect the phone's battery life regardless.

If my comments are vague, so are yours too, bud. You haven't posted/mentioned any solid proof to dispute either, so get off your high horse.

Stop using a blanket approach and post some real findings.

Apple 18-20W is absolutely adorable. Will have to give them 5 more years to get to 40W and 50W.

They are from the same company and basically the 2 chargers use the same technology, just eith a different name.
The 50W charger I heard that it's 10V 5A and splits 25W to each of the 2 batteries of the find X lambo edition.
So just saying now if I take the 50W one and put it on the OP 6T McLaren edition, will it support it at least and if yes, what's the max supported charging speed?

EskeRahn, 15 Dec 2018Hmm by "....It's just not included in the box as standard."... moreWell it's true; Apple doesn't include a fast charging brick or the 3.5mm dongle and this bugs many apple fanboys too.

"An aPple fan could turn it upside down, and claim that it is to not encourage people to use fast charge, and thus risk reducing the product life faster than the OS updates does." Totally agree, but the delusional haters/fandroids will deny this fact anyway, claiming Apple is greedy once again, so why bother bringing this point up to them.

I like both Android and Apple. But Apple does deserve to be bashed for their ridiculous prices, removing bundled features and having a less "flexible" OS.

Just can't stand the blatant lies and fairytales haters make up trying to justify their hatred. Can't have a mature conversation with them ever.

AnonF-85937, 15 Dec 2018Fast Charge is indeed brilliant and an innovation, the peop... moreWell my last two devices got fast charging, and I avoid using it in daily use. And in general take much care how I charge.

And hence -unlike many others- I (still) have a good stamina on the BB Priv, even in 2018, as the battery is still in very very good health. (start e.g. here https://eskerahn.dk ?p=2197 )

I don't feel the guys at Battery University are biased. They have been looking at the facts in this area for many years, and they know what is good and bad for a battery.

There are a lot of cases were equipment can be used a bit further than intended at the cost of lifespan. And this can be quite acceptable.

To take a very simple example: Have we not all from time to time overloaded a simple plastic shopping bag? We can see the handle stretching, but it holds. If we do that every time we shorten the life of the bag quickly - on the other hand it was convenient not to carry the extra groceries in lose weight. So an acceptable loss of overall life, for quick convenience.

And fast charge is quite similar. It IS bad for the battery, BUT there are often cases where it is convenient to get a quick top-up, and here fast charge is fine, as long as you do not use it daily.

You can see figure 2 here https://batteryuniversity.com/learn/article/ultra_fast_chargers on how different battery uses wear the battery.
Unfortunately this graph is BOTH heavy charge and load, so it can not be applied directly to different charge currents and same discharge

Another matter is the DoD (Depth of discharge). When you do fast charges, you might well use this to quicly top-up the battery, and this is ALSO bad. In another article they wrote on how the DoD affects the overall battery life, and BOTH too shallow AND two deep DoD is bad (not many are aware of this). Actually a DoD of roughly half the capacity is what gives you the most in total of your battery over its lifespan. See the table here https://eskerahn.dk/wordpress/?p=250

...And on the aPple thing, remember that even aPple finally realized the existence of fast charging, and contrary to what we are used to from those guys try to push for the use of a standard, and not just one of the proprietary formats out there...

I don't care which one is the best by itself. I prefer the one that is the most widely adopted. And that is Qualcomm's Quick Charge 3.0. Almost any charger I get in my hands supports it, meaning I can charge quickly anywhere, at any time with any charger. What good is the fastest one when you can only achieve it with one super obscure type of charger? And when it dies you'll have to buy original super expensive one. Where for QC3.0 you can get quality ones from UGreen for like 12€ or so. Only shame is that QC4.0 is nowhere near as widely adopted as QC3.0...

There's plenty of concrete proof which indicates batteries do degrade much faster when using fast charging. Studies go back for about 5-6 years now...
