I bought my Mi5 for $200. There wont be any other device from any other manufacturer that costs $200, runs on snapdragon 820 and got 3 year software support. Similar with RN3

Most phones in the A1's range gets zero OS updates, the Pie update for A1 is just around the bend. Meaning his budget android phone get update right around the same time as Samsung and Huawei flagships that when new costed about four times as much.

Someone needs a reality check, and you will find that person in the closest mirror.

Xiaomi had 2 main USP's that helped them sell so many units, and also I personally bought a Xiaomi device:

          1. Best value for money.
          2. Longer software support.

Guess this year, they lost both.

By the way, getting MIUI & security updates is just okay enough for this old device. but Xiaomi someway cut that too..!

YalokIy, 20 Dec 2018RN3 never received any Android updates, only MIUI and secur... moreNo, I think it managed to get one update.

However, Xiaomi's update schedule is a joke because they roll out updates regularly but they hardly have anything new in them. Sometimes they make MIUI Platform upgrades, and this usually brings a bevy of features. However, overall the way they've made their system, it's almost to appease their fanboys and not enthusiasts or average users.

Which is why I recommend people use Custom ROMs. For instance, the Kenzo has an Official Port of ResurectionRemix. In fact, theres one for the Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro and the Note 6 Plus, and neither seems to offer much of an upgrade over Kenzo in performance or features. It's the smarter buy instead of an A1 or A2.

You will be lucky if an Android device got over a year of support HAHAHA.

"Xiaomi is releasing a plethora of devices each year and the software support for all of them is not only costly, but time-consuming as well."
----First of all, NOBODY asked you to release that many models of smartphones of similar variety. One Redmi phone per year is good enough. You basically created the trouble of your own. No one's in demand for so many models, not even people were complaining about a simple yet streamlined lineup of devices from your brand in the past.
Second, I somehow compensated for the one-year OS upgrade on my Redmi 5 Plus for the guaranteed 4-year worth of MIUI and Android Security Patch updates, but knowing they're dropping the Redmi Note 3 after just 3 years of support, this might as well be my very first and last Xiaomi phone.
Who are they kidding anyway? My dad's Mi A1 still hasn't gotten the Android Pie update despite being part of the Android One program. Be it flagship or mid range, it's their duty to give timely updates, and definitely much faster than any non-Android One devices. I guess Chinese brands can't be really trusted after all.....
Lastly, they're starting to go greedy, I notice. Their budget phones are no longer as killer as they used to be. I get that others have caught up to their game, but even after that, they seem to not give a thing about it.
Even just offering USB C on Redmi lineup would compensate for it, but it only goes to show how little do they care about this series.
They had a great potential of becoming on par with Huawei, but I guess it'll forever remain JUST a potential.

RN3 is a budget device, the fact it got support for almost three years is remarkable to say the least.

Been using Note 3 pro for almost 2 years. Have changed to custom rom long ago, now on android 9.0. Will probably switch to redmi note 7. whenever and if it arrives.
