Essential Phone discontinued, company working on 'next mobile product'

29 December 2018
It sounds more like PR speak for 'we're still alive', but it could also be a PH-2 (or Phone 2?) in the making.

And the conclusion? Don't let software guys design hardware (or vice versa).

I am glad this devices lasted as long as it did, sadly it was not as popular as it should have been. :c

At least they make a phone every while not every year.

If their phone dropped at a competitive price point like it has been recently then the PH-1 would be one of the best phones to get. The only reason they are well priced are to sell stock to get funds to cover all the losses they made.

The article should mention that it was the first phone with a notch (and probably the best, most unobtrusive notch design).

I really wanted this phone. It has such a beautiful design. But the camera was a huge disappointment and Essential never owned up to either how bad it was, nor how much they misled people about it in their marketing (when once you found out what the actual sensor module was, it was clear it would never be flagship quality).

All they would have had to do with the PH-2 is update the chipset, put a true flagship camera in it, and it would have been brilliant.

I have an essential phone and like it. Just wish it had a larger screen. A MI Max like phone would be great. Large screen without the large price. Nothing like that in the North American market.

Goodone but wish Rubin works on new OS, hardwares are full and the old manufacturers still prove innovation comes from them with extremely better built quality from long research

The last Oracle, 29 Dec 2018 1. Get RID of the Titanium and Ceramic. That's like Ver... moreI don't agree with #1 at all. Dude, Titanium allows the phone to be built and sturdy like a tank. It's amazing how people care more about bezel-less and water-proofing nonsense more than sturdy, shatter-resistance. Ceramic at least makes it so the phone is not as fragile, expensive, and can allow for wireless charging so Essential should look into that direction.

Also if you want a better camera, you are better off getting the Mate 20 Pro. The Gluegate ridiculousness should have worn out by now and it has virtually everything you're asking for other than the headphone jack (which the phone comes with a headset at least).
