06 January 2019
The aspect ratios of smartphone screens have been growing taller and the diagonals grow with them. How much is too much?

      6.5 inch @16:9
a small mini phonetab like the Note series. perfect for movie, gaming, and tasks.

Zendroid, 06 Jan 2019They called it phablets even after 4.7".well.....................
        considering the first ever phablet was 5.3inches (yep. talking about the first galaxy note) it does make sense. ^^;

in that aspect ratio a 5incher is as large as 4.5inch in 16:9 ratio.

Anywhere between 5"-5.8" is ok for me, as long as the phone has slim bezels. What really matters are the physical dimensions of the phone, and I won't buy a phone that can't be somewhat easily used with one hand or that I can't fit in my pocket. Therefore, anything over 145mm tall is a direct no go for me (so, that excludes at least 95% of the phones being released nowadays).

                I'm using Samsung Galaxy A3 2017 (SM-A320Y/DS) 4.7"
Won't go any bigger, I like to operate my phone one-handedly.
Won't vote as this poll doesn't cover what everyone needs.

There is no ideal screen size for all. So long the is a browsing need, content consumption needs it is always better to have bigger screen like 6.3-6.5. I use S9+, Note 8, Mate 20 Pro(notch taking away some space). I always feel they cater to my need very well. Smaller screen mobiles like 4S do a very good job for just calls and messaging needs. But they are NOT so great in viewing videos, apps with content, editing tools like Word, PDF, Excel, emails etc....

mobiles makers should release smaller screen size (3.5 inch to 4 inch) in market. and bigger qwerty phone with screen size 3.5 to 4 inch with any OS 4g network and atleast whatsapp support. its demanding now days.

5.5 inch is the best with slim bezels, front FPS and navigation buttons like the OnePlus 3/3T

                        Exactly, 4,5" FTW!
I had 4,5", 5,0" in the past and now 5,8", and it's too big to operate comfortably.
                        4,5 was the best.

Screen size don't matter. 5.8 inch can be as comfortable as 5.0 inch. Phone design is more important.

PiT, 06 Jan 2019That's a childish sizeWell, I've never used anything above 5". My last phone was TINY - 3.8" screen size, so I say that's a hefty upgrade in screen size.

Come on, guys! 5" is smallest option? Seriously? Where are 4", 4.5", 4.7"? I have the most normal hand size/ finger lenght and to use phone comfortably one handed 4.3" is maximum. I've tried it a number of times. OK, iPhone 6/ 6S/ 7/ 8, Samsung A3 or Sony Xperia compact versions of XZ1, X and Z5 are sort of usable. But that's it. It's mission impossible to use those 5" or more phones when you are riding a bike or in a pounded bus/ train.

I think 'what is the ideal device size' is a better question to ask. For screens it is simple: '>90% STB ratio'.
