21 by 9 screen is a good move but when Samsung does it and other brands back to square one! Just like the notch! Make a phone with solar power on the back like those Casio calculators or watches with solar power! Bring back the cybershot camera with Xenon flash and real manuel controls... Be what you were in the Sonyericsson days! Or perrish like HTC and LG!

I hope that in the future, Sony will follow the current trend of bezel-less mobile phones with at least a screen to body ratio above 80%, with cameras with bokeh, front and rear effects. Then the back of the phone are sparkling like the HTC U11 phone, this is another trend. The phone is ergonomic with a thickness of 10 mm but has a light weight below 150 grams. Don't like Iphone with their notch, because it's weird. And also the iPhone is too thin and uncomfortable to hold. Better like Samsung Note 9, but with a ratio of 21: 9. I like the screen ratio of 21: 9, because someday it will become a trend.

But I guess this is only to keep your phone alive just in case, and to stop people who think water resistance means pools and seas. The warranty didn't change the moment Sony changed their waterproof policies though, it stayed the same. They will cover water damaged phones if the phone wasn't watertight due to even every day wear and tear. So you are good.
But I agree with Sony on this one, no one should intentionally put (even a phone with the highest possible water resistance rating, hell even a phone that has 2 ratings like mine) underwater. Even if it is IPWhatever certified phone don't trust it.
Simply because electronics don't get along with water, at all. Water resistance is only that, resistance.
Don't do what I do.., meaning underwater caves and saunas? Yes I'm a certified fool when it comes to this.

The circumstances and the pressure put on the device are different, as I previously stated. They are not levels of protection they are indicators of what can a device can take.
Read it again. Also the Sony warranty still cover certain situations of water damages phones, they wouldn't do that if they weren't certain about their phone's capabilities. And they are. As checked by me 1st hand.
Get an ip65 Xperia phone as you say they are, sink it underwater for many minutes and it will most likely survive that.
          End of discussion.

Denis Thomas, 18 Jan 2019Well get an Xperia ip68 certified phone and test it yoursel... moreIt couldn't be IP65 and IP68 certified at the same time. IP65 certification voids IP68 certification. At this is maximum protection level. Level. Which is straightly said by disclaimer in official specifications - do not submerge.

regs, 18 Jan 2019If you are easy on marketing it doesn't mean that it is IP6... moreWell get an Xperia ip68 certified phone and test it yourself. Mine works well even after dunking her in sauna warm waters and in the shower afterwards, with the pressurised water hitting her from every direction.
Nothing happened except the bottom speaker was muffled until I blown gently out the water with my mouth.
So I'm pretty sure it's ip68 and ip65 certified. One is dunking which is not that big of a deal, and the other is an entirely different pressure put on a device, it's water pressure resistance. Which most phones won't survive.

And I didn't say any other manufacturer have actual IP68 protection as well.

regs, 16 Jan 2019https://www.sonymobile.com/us/products/phones/xperia-xz3/sp... moreUmm you did read the IP68 certification yes?
Also No company fixes a water damaged phone? Only Sony if you remember.
If your phone gets water damaged under warranty BUT it doesn't have and external damage and fails the vacuum test, warranty covers it because there was a leak.
This is what Sony told me, and that's what they did with my Xperia Z5. So your misinformation doesn't work. Get your eyes tested they are both ip65 and ip68. These certifications are TOTALLY DIFFERENT. The one is for jet pressure and the other for underwater. Read what they say boy, it's clear they are totally different.
                  So you have no argument.

I have avg hands, but i`m 185cm tall and 88kg. I`m taller than avg and still I find really hard to move around with or to navigate my 6" LG V30 compared to my old 4.6" Z3C.

Sony shouldn`t axe the compact at all, they should listen to consumer feedback, make the bezzels way smaller and equip those damn compacts with more ROM\RAM. But they fuck it up intentionally, so at least some will buy their bigger flagship. And now it seems like they even want to downgrade the chipsets incorporated in compacts from flagship grade to midtier, really nice tactics.

Denis Thomas, 14 Jan 2019Show me a single source claiming they are not IP68. Go onhttps://www.sonymobile.com/us/products/phones/xperia-xz3/specifications/

Disclaimers. Point 4 - Xperia XZ3 is water resistant and protected against dust. You should not put the device completely underwater. Abuse and improper use of device will invalidate warranty. The device has been tested under Ingress Protection rating IP65/68.

Water resistant, not waterproof. Water resistant is levels 4, 5 or 6. In this case it's level 5 water resistance.
                          Dust protection - that's level 6.

Tested, not certified. Putting device completely under water (requires level 7 or 8 protection) will invalidate the warranty. And it's being read - IP65 of IP68. Pure fooling marketing.

If you watched YouTube teardowns of many Sony phones, you'll see their logic board is basically blank on the other side where they just slap the battery on the back of the Logic board. Clearly, a sign of lazy engineering and poor use of PCB space. Many other brands can pack the same amount of components on smaller PCBs, which just shows that Sony has poor knowledge of PCB design.

Till now sony was my favorite because they had great software quality with an almost clean android, great battery life, long enough support for Android upgrades and patches and the Compact line. It just fits into my pocket and i was able to use it with one hand. Sony - if you remove the compact line - will have to look for alternatives.
