They created first phone and Sony were the first copycat back in 1982 with their device.
Since then all copy.

For some weird reason their bad software, beats everyone at the sharpness and detail.

But we don't mention this fact. It doesn't help our case. Sony is baad camera, Sony is dying, Sony bad design let's stick to these and seem like we are in tha game! :)

In that case I will never buy any new phone ever again, and will stick with my fully working 4+ years old Z3 Compact and once it's dead, I will buy another one for pennies. Good for me, a lot of money saved.

You might as well axe the whole phone department because you are not listening to customers and they are not buying your latest phones anymore because of that. Who gave you the idea to axe headphone jack? Not the customers. Who gave you the idea to first limit and then axe small phones? Not the customers for sure. Many would like have 4.7inch flagship smartphone replace their current iPhone 6-7-8 lineup and they are not looking for tablets that you sell these days. Have fun figuring out why the market research and sales dont combine. Im waiting for the Sony compact with under 5 inch display and headphone jack. If I do not have that thing to buy then I keep using my iPhone for many years to come.

Denis Thomas, 13 Jan 2019What? Sony was the first to have glass on glass sandwich an... moreFirst to make waterproof smartphone was Motorola. It was Motorola Defy. Back then it was still Sony Ericsson. Very first SE smartphone with level 7 of water protection was Xperia active a full year after Defy. But even the, nowadays, they are only level 5, water resistant. Putting them in conditions of level 7 voids the warranty.

Cameras are not only about sensors. It's also lens and software. Sony been doing very bad in those, especially software. This is where Sony is usually heavily criticized.

We here doesn't care about brands. We talk about any side, whatever it is a bad or it is a good one. We do criticize everyone, whatever it's Sony, Apple, Samsung, Huawei, Xiaomi, HTC etc. We do it to everyone when there is a reason. And we don't hide our heads behind the speaking brand and marketing. We are geeks. We know technology. And most of us have a respective technological education. So marketing like - "shut up, it's best device, you don't know what you talking about" doesn't work on us. We do know.

PeterThePanda, 13 Jan 2019Sony should: 1. Fire their entire design and R&D team.... moreTheir choice to not go crazy slim is design decision not packaging decision. Their phone internals are one of the best packaged in the business you can see it on YouTube, they do have lot's of stuff inside.

Phone being thin doesn't make it a better phone, it actually makes it worse in ergonomics department especially if it's a small device. Small devices should have at least 10mm of thickness to balance the small front plate and XZ2C with it's plastic pillow back is a perfect example how thickness and weight counter the small footprint to make it sit in your hand properly. Hand grip is perfect despite rounded frame cancer of a trend.

OIS also doesn't make your camera better because it's just there. If implemented right yes you would get better low light photos but if implemented for the sake of spec check like many manufacturers are doing it doesn't make any difference. Many OIS equipped phones fail to non OIS XZ3/XZ2Premium even in night time.

Problem with Sony camera is consistency, sometime it would take the best photos mobile camera can give you but as soon as you shoot again under exact same circumstances but maybe slightly different angle you would get totally different result. That is their problem along side blowing out the highlights pretty quick. Which leads me to another finding: a lot of people perceive spot metering as inferior approach to software photo stacking that evens out the exposure as end result.

Denis Thomas, 13 Jan 2019What? Sony was the first to have glass on glass sandwich an... moreActually, for a really long time now, that cameras are far more than just the hardware. Of course bad hardware will always result in bad photos, but good hardware (alone) will not cut it. That pretty much sums-up Sony, their camera modules are everywhere and with amazing results with others software. However, when use on Sony's own smartphones, their software always made them lag behind the competition (yes, the one using the same sensors, but different software).

You can try to dance around this as much as you want, but while Sony is the best at making some of the individual components, they were never really the best at making the product that puts everything together. There were times when they did get close, but were ultimately always surpassed.

As harsh as this may be, the proof is in pudding.

Just release a model with flahship specs, round corners same size as A3 2017 , same volume buttons place like Xz1 compact (but not sharp corners pleaseeee), and not a thick phone , for gods sake do a thinner phone, XZ1 compact it's too thick . >And release that , and you have a winner , hey a A3 2017 (look alike) with at least 32 gb 64 gb internal storage is that hard?

XZ1c Owner, 13 Jan 2019Are they stupid? There's a ton of people that want a phone ... moreNot sure how hard it can be to find pants with decent pockets. I wear a rather small pants size, 32/31 usually, and yet still my 5.9" 16:9 screened phone fits into pockets like a dream. That's because they have nicely sized pockets, so fitting a "big" phone is not a challenge like it shouldn't be.

Also, I wonder why Sony even tries to make their own phones. Just provide some camera tech to others to perfect (like now) and save the company resources to improve other products. There clearly isn't a huge demand for their phones, so why bother and waste money? I mean, it has been quite a while since I spotted a Sony. They simply are nowhere to be found.
