Opinion: Bezel-less is not the way forward

20 January 2019
How do you imagine the phones in three years? Foldable? Bezel-less? With invisible cameras? Powered by new long-lasting batteries? Maybe. But bezel-less - that can't be the way forward.

maybe i'm the only one who think that phones with corner to corner screen is ugly and yea way less ergonomic. Galaxy note 9 is great looking smartphone without the attempt to make it looks so bezelless, also the Mi Mix 2 the only phone that i fine with the attempt to make it bezelless but atleast it still got the chin.

OP, you got a point. Curved edges and too small bezels are great for watching stuff and viewing content, but handling these things? That's a task unto itself. Let's hope that 2019 yields great palm rejection

I have Mate 20 Pro and Note 9 and I never face accidental touched on the edges or anywhere, you know why? Because, I use armour cases which gives perfect protection for the mobile and keeps your hand press away from edges without losing its ergonomics in operation of the bezelless display.

l like bezels and I like chins because they mean better touch experience, allow you to hold the phone better, straight clean clear frame cut view, and should bring superior speakers. A slightly bigger size or footprint is a reasonable trade-off.
Bezels-less curved edge screens with annoying distracting notches are all pretentious nonsense, tedious and UNCOOL.

Astera, 20 Jan 2019If you love thick fat bezels so much head back to 1999 and ... morewhat 1999, the first iPhone is from 2007 and had such a great screen-to-body ratio that it was controversial. Other phones from that time have like half the sub-ratio.

I think the real problem is phone size getting out of hand, literally. I guess most people would be fine with the iPhone X: relatively big 5.8in screen, yet small enough for one-handed use.

This has to be one of the honest articles that I have ever read on this site. Totally agree with the author. I believe that things like foldable displays etc are the true technological advancements which ought to be pursued. All these other things like bezel-less and notches are just side shows. Pointless.

This web ads getting insane pop up everytime i touch the screen geez

That's why I really like Sony; it focuses on user experience without sacrificing the design (XZ2/XZ3).
Not to mention but Xperia UI is the Best, even better than stock android in my opinion.

Sony is struggling on their mobile business because they're not keeping up with the latest trend and I like that because its obviously that they don't fool people with useless gimmicks instead they use a different approach using their OWN technology/invention.

If you love thick fat bezels so much head back to 1999 and pick up an iPhone one . Bezels should not be eradicated but rather replaced with screen and the option to add these bezels should be in the software inside the phone

BigDisplay, 20 Jan 2019Idc, but what i still dreaming about is, to see the 16:9 fo... more16:9 bezeless please

Have said this before and I repeat it - bezeless is ergonomically not good.

Holding the phone and using it till edge is not possible without damaging the structure of thumb and finger in long run.
Bezels are necessary even for structural reasons.
And above all, bezeless phone do not improve productivity. Increase in screen doesn't always mean increased productivity.

Samsung edge series was just a way to hide bezels from front.

Reducing bezels to the minimum while increasing screen size to the maximum to achieve an engineering and design feat and ruining the user experience as a result.
Phones with folding screens that unfold to a tablet sized screen. Death of the tablet soon then?
I want most phones to be of the size and design of either the Galaxy A3 (2017) or the Xperia Z3 compact!!!

Idc, but what i still dreaming about is, to see the 16:9 format coming back.

I prefer bezel-less as i always add a good and soft case to protect my phone, so the case already give me the bezel and beze-less phone maximize the display area under the case. A win-win in my case and i add too tempered glass protector too.

Skip curved edge displays and sculpt the shape to be easy to hold like motos a few years back and you can have slim bezels and ergonomics.
Shame everythings a flat slim slab with glass on both sides now.
