Google signs 32-bit only apps' death sentence

17 January 2019
There are some exemptions, but from August 1 all new apps and app updates will be required to support 64-bit phones.

Moj, 20 Jan 2019you are correct my friend! After all that little thing is ... morei mostly use it as a test subject(no sensitive info on it and i install almost any thing on it) an if the app was good enough it would be installed on my note 8!

You will still be able to install 32-bit apps on your Nexus 4 with Pie even after August 2021, because your phone is not 64-bit capable. Whether developers still want to support 32-bit devices is up to them. Google is not ending support for 32-bit apps and devices with this.

"Here’s the key difference: 32-bit processors are perfectly capable of handling a limited amount of RAM (in Windows, 4GB or less)" while it is mostly true but it is not totally true!
Did you know there are 32 bit CPUs that could utilize more than 4 GB and as big as 16 GB of RAM?
This one is total BS also"The first fully 64-bit operating system was Mac OS X Snow Leopard back in 2009"
Microsoft Windows XP Professional x64 Edition, released on April 25, 2005, is an edition of Windows XP for x86-64 personal computers.
          I don't get it!
When some one don't know about something there is no reason that person try to write an article which is full of wrong and misleading information!
Just don't write any thing or do some research before you write up any thing!(i am looking at you digitaltrends Editor Jon Martindale)
About "But since 95% of processors used today are 64 bit and OS is 64 bit. Wouldn't it make sense that apps on 64 bit be better?" yes, you are correct!
But there are still some handful of 32 bit devices that can still be used!
This move is not good cause i just yesterday was able to finish poring android 9.0 pie on my 7 year old nexus 4 and need some 32 bit app support here!

                what?
are you sure you know what are you talking about? stability has little to nothing to do with how wide system bit mapping is!
"As you can constract files using a Quad-word architecture instead of Dual-word" what this supposed to mean? did you know the 64 bit on average uses more ram(almost around 2X) than 32 bit?(also loss of ram can lead to instability)
"A user that uses 64 bit app would feel it behaves better"
it is mostly personal description than real parametric description.
still there is no solid evidence of 64 bit is stabler than 32 bit in your comment.

This whole custom rom flashing is for Tech savvy people not for those people who buy phone on the basis of, "oh! wow it's a new iPhone it's has best tech in world" and reality is they don't know shit about tech or even why the heck 64bit SoC or OS or apps exist in the first place. Your argument should not cross to people perefence when you are talking about technological advancement. Everyone don't know what their device is capable of and also try to accept it when some of the tech got an edge over other. If you are not familiar with something then don't argue on the basis of what someone's grandma do or don't know try to stick to the topic. Many Android OEM gives user a more flexibility of unlocking the bootloader without voiding there warranty because it gives user to make the most of their smartphone an yeah

A user that uses 64 bit app would feel it behaves better. I won't say less bugs as I know how hard the QA team works on finding these bugs. But definitely would feel more stable.

32 bit works well with budget android phones with low ram eg. 4/3/2/1GB with low ram usage and cpu. 64 bit would put them to a crawl otherwise unless manufacturers will stop releasing phones with low ram.

Arif238, 17 Jan 2019Android 8.0 Oreo is 64bit right? Or is it just a hardware ... moreQualcomm has been making 64-bit SoC since 2014.
Their first try in making 64-bit SoC is miserable, though (SD808, 810, 410, 615)
That either they was slow & inefficient (SD410), or down right disaster as QC underestimate the 'new' ARM 64-bit micro-architecture (Cortex A57 is a wild beast, unlike Cortex A15 which QC used for their custom 'Krait')

The best thing about android is being open source that let me to update my 7 year old nexus 4 to android 8.1.2 (working on pie version to bring it on also some have success in this but i like to cock my own ROM) so in this regard it is way better than iOS.
Also iphone 5s has 64 bit SOC!(and you get whole lot of throttling without notice until apple being filed for not reviling it)
Keep it in mind that iphone 5C was almost out the same time as 5s but it didn't get the updates pas 10.3.3 and literally no one can't do anything cause iOS is closed source so no hope when they drop the device off of update program

Thank you! Google is now catching up with Apple when it comes to easier app development (they'll only have to deal with 64 bit phones), more processing power and even Android update longevity.
