There were Chinese brands who did it earlier. I know O+ in the Philippines had it before S4 was released.

This is becoming Minority Report stuff.

So... Yeah, that's that. It becomes an unnecessary inconvenience

My imagination is user do some mudra near the screen can summon some app or access anything.

They flooded the entire market with tons of phones with hopes of becoming recognized as SONY (and not as Sony Ericsson), hence the device saw limited release. I owned one and it was fun for about a day or two. Then I never used the floating touch. But yea it gave the bragging rights anyways

It wasn't worth it for the battery it consumed. Hopefully, this is somewhat like Google's project soli that depend on a radar chip rather than the camera or motion sensor (if it is using MS, it better be a much improved one).

Remind me of Sony Xperia Sola. Sadly almost no one remember that it has floating/hover touch.

It was useful and amazing for what it was advertised with. Even on the beach. You never had to open the phone, you could operate it even if you were eating spareribs or chicken with your bare hands. The hovering feature was truly great and evolutionary. The eye control was maybe not so useful. The s-voice was smart and fun to talk with. Not like now: "I'll look that up for you". You could more or less have small talk with it. The famous face unlock was already there back then, and you actually love it today. But back then you could lock it with face and voice combined. More secure than face unlock is today.

Namelesss, 23 Jan 2019I don't think many people will find that useless. At least ... morea new phone without future support is like a new car without gasoline....LG has done it in the past "we promise updates"....when it in fact it was closer to "we'll update your devices whenever we see fit..not when user want"; they have been some of the most innovative in the past, and probably they are still but they have never stop to listen to their customers and their problems (boot loop, screen problems, monthly security updates, Android updates).
