Weekly poll: are hole-less phones the future or just a gimmick?

27 January 2019
There were two hole-less phones announced in as many days. Though the number of real-world issues solved by them seems lower than that.

I don't think anyone believe these are the future. Its obviously a marginally less fugly workaround than the abdominal notch.

SohailSays, 27 Jan 2019It's raging me to see that OEMs are not giving us what we w... more90 percent of people do not know what they want from a smartphone.

If they see something new they think is cool and innovative cause the companies push ads down their throut and they don't bother to think too much about actual functionality.

Phones have become soo good that is hard to differentiate themselfs from countless other models.
A normal person can buy a 200 dollar phone and be perfectly satisfied with it. So companies need to do stupid stuff just to be different from past iterations.

I believe we here on gsmarena are a lot more like the 10 percent. That's why we don't feel like companies cares about what we think because in reality they really do not!

Notches, punch holes, removed headphones jacks and other ports. They are calling it innovation and asking for more money for it.
phones prices are constantly increasing, yet they have less features and are harder to use because of shrinking bezels.
2018 was the worst year for phones IMO. At this point I'm considering giving up on flagship phones altogether.

It's raging me to see that OEMs are not giving us what we want. Fine, even if you want to showcase your innovation, bring forth a prototype and do an online and offline poll. It's like...damnit they want our money but they leave us with absolutely no options. This is not what we desired for. I am scared that other brands will take this route too. :( Why they are doing whatever the heck they wanna do?

If this becomes the future of smartphones then may God save tech geeks like us. This is stupid and just.... extremely stupid. I don't wish to see OnePlus, Samsung and Google to choose this route. Especially OnePlus and Samsung. Maybe Xiaomi too.

Nope. a gimmick. Removing parts is NOT innovation.
wtf is wrong with OEMs this days!?

                        Gimmick for sure

Put front camera behind the foldable screen. To use selfie cam, just fold the portion and camera will reveal itself.

                            Removing features = innovation ?
                            Wth is happening

This poll wouldn't exist if Apple was the one who had launched this phone.

For now people may call it a gimmick, but as soon as Apple does it (and they will), then every manufacturer would be doing the same, and in the end, it will become the norm.

So yes, it is the future.
