Shanti Dope, 28 Jan 2019Compared to LG, Sony is doing much better, and is still far... moreThe person was most likely talking about the phone business because this site is primarily about phones. Sony is doing really bad these days with only 8 million phones sold last year worldwide.

Anonymous, 28 Jan 2019Is it? Can you get the latest XZ3 and XZ2P in the Philippin... moreNot the XZ3 or XZ2 Premium exactly, but even the old XZ Premium and XZ1 are still being sold here on a nearby local store, heck even the 2-year old XA1 Plus.
Compared to LG, I only saw like 3 to 5 devices from them last year, until it completely went extinct here.
The last one to be sold here is the XZ2, and even that was available for a longer period of time than the G7 ThinQ despite being released later.

Philippines is not a significant market for LG. LG is doing OK in US and had 15% of the US market. (US market size of 2018: 78 millions. LG sold more than 11 millions there. This is a lot better than Sony did. Worldwide, Sony sold a little more than 8 millions for 2018.) Both Sony and LG should be able to stay on, at least for now.

I'm using LG G6 and I liked this device very much due to its compact design, good display and camera.
Sad, they are not doing well in mobile department, they have good potential though.

From the smartphone business only, perhaps.

Maybe, just maybe, you have forgotten to thank who manufactures those amazing camera sensors of most of our smartphones today.
Maybe you have also forgotten to thank the team behind the incredible sound quality of LDAC BT audio connection that our smartphones have today.

Fair enough, because the last LG phone I've tried was the G7 ThinQ, and while it was a decent flagship, it certainly lacked any wow factor that makes it stand out from the crowd. Apart from its very loud BoomBox speaker and Hi-Fi Quad DAC (which is a different variant and usually costs more), there's nothing special to make it gather a lot of attention.
Its camera performance I'd say is even below par the 2018 standards for flagships.
I wanted to try the V40 ThinQ because it seems as if they have fixed most, if not all the problems with the G7 ThinQ, but I guess their budget did not meet the expectations to allow it to be sold here.
Sad, because I really want underdogs to bite back, but I guess it's their choice already to quit, and it breaks my heart that a brand that was once the biggest threat to the biggest brands of smartphones has just turned into a disastrous compilation of disappointment over the years.
Hope they could resurrect soon like Nokia did.

While most of us wish the best for LG as an alternative android manufacturer, their products keep raising eyebrows each year.

Maybe they just want to make phones for their local market only, with no interest in international sales? Because otherwise they would have studied the markets, and needs/expectations of international customers.

Their phones in general have interesting specs and great features (like high-quality dac for 3.5-mm audio), but the products as a whole disappoint. THey should really start listening...

Also lol at Sony loyalists. Still can't accept that after lg and htc, Sony is next in line to fold. Forgettable brand is forgettable.

Lg can stick to TV's, where they are global leaders. Leave the smartphone business to better oem's.

I'm not surprised they're pulling out. Their phones range from mediocre to crap, plus support basically non-existent. And very stubborn when it comes to pricing. Mid-range models on flagship prices. So much for competition

Hmm I am not sure LG was able to compete on price... Vivo, Oppo, Huawei & Xiaomi are making it hard even for local brands such as my|phone & Cherry Mobile to compete even so I am not amazed they are pulling out...

Im a solid fan of lg mobile phone since 2009, with my first keypad phone from lg the kp199... I feel sad when i read this news,..

I have not seen any LG V40 in malaysia as well. I owned a galaxy s2 then galaxy note 4 then sony xzp and my wife owned a lg v10.

lg v10 is the first to die under bootloop after a year. my s2 and note 4 are still working but is slow and obsolete now. s2 and note 4 both suffered from overheat after 2 years of using and my s2 rooted to clear those unused system apps to avoid overheat and draining my battery so fast. sadly note 4 encounter the same thing after 2 years and new battery can drain 1% per min when not even using.

disappointed with samsung on their 2 years overheating phone and lack of update and dropping removable battery, i moved to sony. at least if everyone is dropping the removable battery i might as well choose the 1 that had done it the first place which is sony.

sony updates is excellent just that they are not making money in SEA and they also pulled out from SEA. Now i can only get those phones through 3rd party. Sony/lg/samsung has a higher price tag than most chinese phones in terms of flagship or mid range and chinese phones are only winning on the price. Android users are very keen on the price although sony/lg/samsung is a tard bit more expensive than chinese phones and their price drop pretty quick after awhile.

Obviously sony/lg/samsung wont price their flahship as the same with chinese phones so i am pretty sure they wont be doing good any time soon

In my country people mostly use iPhone or Samsung. For me hands down Sony is the best. Can't beat Sony's performance. XZ3 already destroyed iPhone XS Max.
