07 February 2019
The display will reportedly turn translucent when you activate the selfie camera.

It'll be another flop not because of the phone itself but the launch price. If you expect the sequel with new/more expensive tech to cost less than the original then you're simply naive.

No 3.5mm jack, no decent battery, no sd, not even a second sim slot, iirc. It was supposed to be aimed at enthusiasts and yet, the offered exactly the opposite.

PRICE was the BIGGEST problem with the PH-1. When the "fire sale" happened, they sold A BUNCH. If they want success with the PH-2, KEEP the price affordable, say 400-500 bucks.

I doubt that they'll do it perfectly, but it would be cool if they could

Semitransparent is not transparent so you are forced to edit a process the image to correct the colors. So the result could not be real and natural. Hmmmmm doesn't sound too appeal.

On the other side a company with what customer service? Send your phone to the other side of the world for every maintenance? No thanks!!!

I liked the first Essential phone but i thought it needed a bigger capacity battery and a bigger 6.2" screen variant.
With this rumored second edition, i would like to see two variants...a regular 5.8" screen model and a bigger (6.2"--6.4'') screen model OR if just one device make it 6.2" screen with a 17:9 aspect ratio. If the diagram depicts what the phone might look like then it might not be a 17:9AR or 16:9AR screen which i prefer. Also a big 4000+mAh capacity battery, better camera with some sort of night sight mode, better louder sounding speakers, 6/8GB RAM, ample storage plus hopefully SD card expansion, maybe throw in a headphone jack. With all that said, hope they price it reasonably. The goal is to make phones they can sell (move a lot of numbers)...competition is very fierce. Beware of highly specced midrangers the likes of Poco phone etc which are priced to siphon numbers from the highly priced phones.

It has to be OLED as these panels are transparent from behind (see that Jerryrigeverything under display fingerprint scanner video). LCD won't work as it needs the back light behind every pixel.

The best notch in the business! and before the notch became this long, thick, ugly unibrow.
Price the EPH2 at £599 at launch, same high material build quality, SD855 8GB Ram, oled screen, headphone jack, 3600 +mAh battery, in display fingerprint sensor etc etc.. and you have a competitive challenger to the Oneplus7.

THE-TRUTH-REVEALER, 07 Feb 2019Please don't go with LCD. OLEDs might be expensive but will... moreI second this. OLED with a 4,000 mAH battery (ZTE pulled it off on a thin phone; the Axon 9 Pro), Stereo Speakers, accept the modular accessories from the first phone, 16 or 20 and 12MP rear camera hardware, wireless charging, MicroSD card slot, 6GB of RAM, and price it reasonably. That would be amazing.

With technology like this, it would not surprise me if they take to kickstarter/Indiegogo to fund it.

That's could be a reason to buy this phone ! We will see....

Who else thinks we need an all screen 16:9 smartphone with SD855 ? Razerphone 3 maybe?? Crossing my fingers razer sticks with that aspect ratio

I love the PH-1 just wish the screen was bigger. Would buy the PH-2 if available. Updates same as Google's line

Zendroid, 07 Feb 2019Essential, be careful! Apple will copy it and then all n00b... moreWell said Zendoid. 👍
For some strange reason some ppl giving Apple credit for the Notch.. forgetting to realize the Essential Phone did it first. Apple always copy and then others sort of give them credit for it.

The original Essential Phone was a very underrated phone. It was premium all around but was priced too high at launch (for a non-reputable company).

Essential Phone 2 could be very successful if they deliver a product like the first one in a reasonable price.

As for this UD stuff, it seems unlikely that a struggling company would be able to pull off something that the big birds couldn't... but you never know, anything's possible.

                                        Now that's forward thinking.

make it translucent when using the front camera then gets hidden away when on homescreen or in another app.

this is just better and much more innovative.
