LG G8 ThinQ will use its OLED display as a speaker

14 February 2019
By vibrating the surface, the phone will utilize the display as a diaphragm.

Shanti Dope, 14 Feb 2019The highly-regarded "best display on a smartphone today" ac... moreA bit odd when we remember both v30 and v40 had worse OLED panel than the XZ3.
The V30 with blue tint issue and illuminated black, while the the v40 is getting better, it still have colour shift to some extent and the black is still not pure black as we expect from OLED.
It puzzling how they can provide good panel for Sony but not themself(not to mention the Nokia 8 Sirocco also has blue tint issue like V30 but worse)

This sounds like something else that could be neutered by a screen protector, along with ultra sonic finger print scanners

If that's not any indication of how fantastic LG P-OLEDs are, let me tell you the fact that Samsung's Super AMOLED screens are still 8-bit in hardware, no matter how much they claim it to be a 10-bit HDR panel.

Anonymous, 14 Feb 2019They are among few companies that are making profit. I don'... moreLg mobile division has posted 7th quarter losses... Only reason they're hanging around in the mobile segment is to compliment their display and automotive businesses.

Last time they had an OLED on the G series is the G Flex 2, if you consider that in the G series otherwise this is the first which is odd. I'm kinda skeptical though about LG's OLED, they were never great. Their IPS are much higher quality.

On another note, I hope the screen sound is impactful otherwise its a gimmick. Just give us stereo Boombox speakers, LG. That would be phenomenal.

The G8 ThinQ is rumoured to have a 3500 mAh battery (500 mAh improvement on the LG G7 ThinQ), & with Meridian involved in the audio department I'm expecting great things, my main concern would be OTA updates, I got 3 years & 3 months with my 2015 S6, I expect more like 5 years security updates with any 2019 flagship.
If they guarantee 4 years, it should sell well:
LG G8 ThinQ (Unofficial preliminary specifications) v's LG G7 ThinQ:
                    https://m.gsmarena.com/compare.php3?idPhone1=9540&idPhone2=9115

Wasn't LG supposed to use LCDs for the G series & OLEDs for the V series? Did they change their mind?

So basically, it's a similar concept as Sony's Acoustic Surface technology found in the BRAVIA A1, which works great as seen from the reviews of that TV. But of course, smartphones are of a way smaller package as compared to TVs, so there's some limitations of what they can do here. Hopefully with LG's implementation of the BoomBox Speaker here (assuming that the rumors are correct), it may help the LG G8 ThinQ, even if it have some limitations in terms of the internal space. But still, I don't think this is good enough to attract customers to buy their smartphones to be honest

The screen should be at least 6.4inch 6.1inch is way too small

Aside from sound prowess nothing is exciting about LG phones

I don't care about a vibrating display if they still has old small camera sensors, old fingerprint sensor and a big notched display. I prefer something more stytilish with better sensors. Their camera software can't make miracles and at the night with low light is more than evident that they aren't enough good and the noise plus low detail at distance too much.

LG is one of those highly respected companies that I wanted to own a phone of, but could never take the plunge.

Now, I'll be thinking between S10 (non plus) and G8 ThinQ... Requirement is, cutting edge triple camera setup with good quality, and good music quality and a "loud" loudspeaker...

I liked the V40 ThinQ, except that its main camera's daytime quality was affected by its huge aperture... Rest its near perfect.

You need to understand that a brand will not receive positive feedback if they don't provide satisfactory products or services.
