That's you call good quality!? I better continue using my Z2!

The best space surveying eguipments consist several separate saucer section and the end product is combined data From those. So this can be done.

      Several smaller camera modules
The good: you can use several smaller camera modules so it is easies to make phone slimmer and protect the lenses. You can Also use special purpose lenses.
The bad: it will cost more to make the hardware that make quality compositions of several pictures.

      one huge lens
The good: the system is more simple so easier to make and cheaper. You have one big sensor, so you can use larger ligth sensors and get better low light pictures.
The bad? The camera module is huge so you get bigger camera bump and Also most likely thicker phone. You have to have one general purpose lens.

In theory you can get good pictures with bot systems. Interesting to see the reality.

It seems Sony and Zeiss have some interesting production and marketing arrangements. Zeiss does make high quality glass camera lenses, however according to information I've read Zeiss doesn't manufacture smartphone lenses. Smartphone lenses are plastic. Sony is the largest manufacturer of smartphone lens components. Apparently, the equipment Sony uses to manufacture and test its smartphone lenses is made by Zeiss. SONY and Zeiss have a branding agreement. Smartphone lenses manufactured by SONY using Zeiss technology and distributed by SONY are branded SONY Zeiss lenses. If the lenses manufactured by SONY using Zeiss manaufaturing and testing equipment are marketed and distributed by Zeiss, they are branded as Zeiss lenses. Amazing Sony breaking real life in tests records. GO SONY!

More camera modules is okay if the camera modules become smaller than usual. If Sony can makes nano camera sensor exclusively for Xperia.

TC, 22 Feb 2019Nokia 808 PureView still beats 'em all with 1 Exactly this. Yes the module was bulky for the time but that's not too say that it can't be miniaturised. Plus it may lend itself to a bigger battery which is a plus. Surely Nokia/HMD realise the nostalgia for the phone.

Very interesting that just as the Nokia 9 goes live Light mentions that they work/recommend Sony sensors. Didn't Light work with Nokia on the 9 but that uses Zeiss lenses?

Versatility is important but everything must have limits. IMO, Phones can have multiple sensors but it should appear to be one or two on the outside.

I can know people can buy other smartphone with expensive price, so Sony don't worry lost the compact camera because people have choices, furthermore Sony has improved camera from XZ2 and XZ3 this is outstanding right now.

Jesus, when will it stop. I cant believe that this is the future and by this I mean stuffing as many camera modules on like last years model then adding one for this year and calling it innovation.
I dont want to be lectured as I read gsmarena religiously and I see the way the trend is going but what happened to good old fashioned days of simplicity?

If the quality not even close to Mate 20 Pro its a dud. Put as many as you like I bet images will still look like crap. You need software at least up to Google level with single camera.

... and then the actual photo and video quality will end up worse than the €300 Pocophone...
