The name of the new USB standard changes to USB 3.2 Gen 2x2

27 February 2019
"2x2" is a weird way to say "3", but renaming the old USB 3.1 Gen 1 and Gen 2 standards can make things even more confusing.

If only the new generation of Ryzen/Intel mobos come with at least 4 nvme ports in the future, and double them to at least 6 later, then it'd be awesome.

Edit: Oh yeah I just had a look at the controller card, and it's even more awesome... But sadly, prices of a 1TB m.2 2280 cards are still really high... I hope these prices fall soon. I could get a 2TB m.2 drive for the price of a 4TB Samsung 850 evo sata3 one.

lol this USB standard is a complete mess. Okay they at least doubled it to 20Gbps, but can someone do something about the SATA port? Internal SSDs are capping out at 500MB/s write speeds. It's time we have some better speeds. When's Sata 4 arriving? Anyone?

Truly one port for everything. Oh, and you get two or four of them on all their MacBook Pros.

Get an external monitor which supports charging and all you have to plug into your laptop is just one cable. It will power the laptop, it will deliver data to the monitor, and if the monitor has USB ports, you can plug other devices and peripherals, while your MacBook will have just one Thunderbolt port used. That's technology done right!

Hope USB standard naming team could learn a thing or two from WiFi, coming to their sense with "WiFi 6" rather than a/b/g/n/ac/something.

How hard would it have been for them to use a naming convention that says what it does on the tin to make it easy for consumers to understand what they are buying.

                                  USB 3 x5 5Gb
                                  USB 3 x10 10Gb
                                  USB 3 x20 20Gb

And then maybe something like USB 3-HP x20 if they develop something that has high power delivery or USB 3 x20-35W if they want to define the actual wattage of power delivery. Simple, easy to understand and infinitely expandable until a new standard comes along, then start again with USB 4 x50-100w etc.
