The best thing with the Huawei design is there are so many exposed and sliding thin plastic parts that will break in a matter of weeks. Great as long as the buyer is dumb enough to come back and buy a new 2,500 buck phone.

I take samsung over huaweiii anytime

Whackcar, 01 Mar 2019Fact of the matter is that both of the foldable phones are ... moreAgreed. Both do prove two things that are important to the future if this platform
        1) The Mate X proves they could be beautiful
        2) The Galaxy Fold proves that an extremely durable hinge design is possible, meaning less chance of failure
They may be competing, but both have proven that this tech has some promise to it.

I might care about Huawei once they ditch the chinese spyware, until then they should keep quiet.

Dear Huawei CEO ... "your software is horrible and samsung does not sell data to chinese government" ... lol
And he says "We were considering something similar" ... Dude when do u stop copying stuff ????

(As a bonus it would be roughly 16:9 both folded and unfolded)

The complex part is making it ALSO close in on it self as an "e" protecting the display.

Tonberry, 01 Mar 2019Well, I'm sure that Samsung's CEO thinks that Huawei Mate X... morePretty sure the Samsung ceo would show more class and appreciate what Huawei is bringing to the table instead of dismissing the competitor as inferior outright.
Sound's like Huawei realizes the idiotic concept of the outward folding scratch prone design. Definitely would have been nice if Samsung had a slightly larger screen though.

Shonen, 01 Mar 2019My gosh, you've nailed it! That's it! Or maybe the 'h' shape so you can use it as a cup holder and also have a money clip and bottle opener built into the long flat side... can call it the Mate Swiss Army X.

Huawei's design is flashier, "cooler" but in no way shape or form more durable and more practical.

A soft plastic body on almost entirety of the device, yeah sign me up for a scratched up phone on day 2 or 3 (at best) after purchase... I mean if you decide to not take the protective case which kills the purpose of having a folded screen altogether, cause, if unfolded, half of the screen is covered by the case anyway lmao. The case is a mess, lol.

Aria, 01 Mar 2019Obviously Samsung fold design is trash, i dont even know ho... moreThink before you talk. If you ever had a foldable phone you know it's thick when it's folded. (DUH). It's like a book. two screens stacked together does not equal one screen phone's thickness. use your brain. The phone is nicer this way. You can say Huawei is "futuristic" but not practical. Their screens are like a wrap-around. It's not elegant it's cumbersome.

4.6 inch screen with 4.380 mAh battery

If we only use phone mode = 3 days battery life ??

                                Theory talk:

I've been thinking about the devices' names and something about the Fold is kind of missing... We know that the Mate X is probably a flagship type since it's a "Mate" series phone, but how about the Fold?

                                Recent Galaxy phone names:
                                J series (Joy) - J, J1, J5, J7 etc
                                A series (Alpha) - Alpha, A3, A5, A7 etc
                                S series (Super Smart) - S, S II, S III, S4 etc
And then there's the Note series that's called just that - Note, Note II, Note 3, Note 4 etc

                                Current ones:
                                Note and S series remain
                                The A series have a 0 at the back - A10, A30, A50
But the M series (Millennial) replaces the J series and also has a 0 at the back - M10, M20, M30

I'm guessing the next Fold would be named like the Notes: Fold 2, Fold 3 etc.

But there's also Samsung's tab range to consider that uses the "Tab Sx *display size" or "Tab A *display size* *release year*" naming scheme (whew). What that means is that they could expand to budget and midrange levels for this tech - Galaxy Fold A 202x, Galaxy Fold Sx, and best of all, Galaxy Fold Note x (wheeew)... or not

As for the Mate X, probs Mate X2 is next. Maybe a P X series, or a Y X series (what?) if they're gonna expand. Or maybe they'll make an X series altogether? Lmao

Speaking of which, I do hope they'd expand to budget, midrange and throw in some styluses for these cuz the possibilties are limitless with foldables

Why don't he compare his latest phones to Samsung's latest phones anyway? As mate X is a Tablet while the Galaxy Fold is a phone which means Galaxy Fold has more usage.

Nick Tagataka, 01 Mar 2019And you don't seem to realize that Galaxy Fold's design ess... moreIMO, display size or ratio matters little. It’s the functional aspect i measure, and which company actually provide what’s truely matters.

In phone mode. Samsung fold have front camera / back camera / display / speaker / proximity sensor all in the right places. Huawei X have to play around with the camera placement depending if video call or taking a picture, and i wonder where’s the proximity sensor, speakers are.

In tablet mode. Huawei makes more sense here, as prox sensor is rarely required.. display wise rect design without notch makes for good video playing. but what about video conferencing call without a front facing camera?

In charging mode, huawei can only charge itself.. given no jack, most likely you will get an other wire to charge your bluetooth earphone. Fold can charge itself plus charge the bluetooth headset as reverse charging.. needing only one charger one wire.

After examining all this, it’s more sensible to pick fold over x, But i could be wrong, as both device have not reach market..
