Obviously Samsung fold design is trash, i dont even know how that thing is considered a product! horrible size, thick as a sandwich, 6 cameras! biggest notch.. just bad really bad. where as Mate X truly represent the future devices. simple clean and unified!

He's right. The extra screen on the Fold does make it heavier. It also seems wasteful. And it is still scratch prone. As is the fold screen on the X.

Even if they were impractical compared to the normal ones, compared to the new folding ones they were smaller when folded, could be folded with one hand and nobody googled things and sent messages constantly those times. Your analogy is absurd, like comparing them to a slice of bread or a tree leaf, no sense comparing.

I dont want to be weird making phone calls on Huawei’s

YXJyb2dhbnQ, 01 Mar 2019Yeah, that large gap when you fold it is absolutely amazingIts first gen you cant expect it to be flawless and even with that gap it looks alot more beautiful than Mate X and when folded you only have to worry about a small screen being broken though would be better if displays were abit bigger (5inch outer and 8 inch inner)

yes he is so right its awful the mate x is great

Kingslayer, 01 Mar 2019Since there is no glass over it, so foldables will be prone... moreWhile when you most of the time use the front display of the Mate X, it may shorten the front Oled lifespan compare to the back display.

Anonymous, 01 Mar 2019Both are useless gimmicks. You can buy great laptop in that... moreYou can buy whole laptop and put it inside your pocket (GPD) but for the sake of having pocketable big screen is the price people pay to be the first

Samsung didn't even let tech reviewers touch their device. Huawei did. Samsung is hiding something we're not seeing.

At this point, neither are a must-buy even if both cost $1,000. There's too much uncertainty with foldables. If I recall, iPhone didn't start rolling until iPhone 4. Peaked sales by iPhone 6. Android didn't mature until 2013. You wait for the 3rd gen through 5th gens to seeing its polish.

                      2019 for foldables = 2007 for touchscreens

Different OEMs trying out different designs.

Samsung's design is far better as the main screen is always protected. Huawei is just saying bs.

I would prefer mates to be with one external and one internal display.

Well, I'm sure that Samsung's CEO thinks that Huawei Mate X's design is bad.

I like both, but if I had to pick, I'd probably pick Huawei's design. But I'd prefer trying out both phones in person before choosing.

Imperator Neubaticus, 01 Mar 2019Huawei kids complain about "zomg bezels" while not realizin... moreAnd you don't seem to realize that Galaxy Fold's design essentially renders the WHOLE tablet display when you close it and forces you to use tiny 4.6 inch display with irregular 21:9 aspect ratio, instead of higher resolution 6.6 inch 19.5:9 display of Mate X. What's the use of foldable screen? So that you can expand it to use it as a tablet, while when you're carrying it around it just becomes the size of a phone? It seriously makes me wonder how you even managed to get "absolutely nothing" as an answer.
Neither manufacturers got the foldable design perfected, and both Samsung's and Huawei's solution have their respective pros and cons. Just because you don't like the specific company it doesn't make it ok for you to talk nonsense.

Which means in very short we will see same design as Samsung from Huawei.
I still remember when they screwing about edge screens...

Anonymous, 01 Mar 2019You said it yourself: that small front screen is for phone ... moreDo you mean, unfold the screen whenever I want to google something or send a message? Start playing transformers, lose time, attract attention, use both hands etc etc. Yeah, sure, not even if I was paid to do it, thanks. The Huawei one is the least stupid of all these stupid folding phones, just make sure you don't place it on surfaces with the screen or use a protector which I don't even know how can be made to work. They're all impractical.

There's a rumour I read suggesting they will use liquid screen protectors for the mate x. You can search for it on amazon, that should solve the scratches issue the downside is you have to reapply every few months. Drops won't be an issue since it's plastic. I think it's probably an evolution on the motorola shatter proof screen.

I definitely would go for the bad yet practical Samsung rather than sleek yet fragile Huawei. I only need to unfold the phone whenever I want to heavy tasking and fold it back if I'm not. Plus, the inside screen of the Samsung should still be protected if I happened to accidentally dropped it. Imagine what would happened if I accidentally dropped the Huawei, especially when folded.
