03 March 2019
They can fold with the screen in, fold and leave it out or some variation on those two options. Each has its advantages and disadvantages.

They are both horribly designed really

Operation Blitz, 03 Mar 2019How about " A non foldable option par se' " . Why do we nee... moreThere is a reason screens gets bigger, though if we want to use bigger screen we got tablets, amount of media consumed requires to have no limit in size. With the size of hand in the way there is just one way - into foldable then into smart spectacles or contact lenses as wearable. The only other choice is to use brain connected to some tech, not eyes to see. The only thing that stand in the way is apps and input, since it differs greatly. Security is small matter considering how unsafe are wearables and it do not stop people from using them.
Price will go down the same way as smartphones, 4K screens or any new tech did compared to the past. It just need enough people to buy them, just wait if it's too pricy for you.

      Huawei Mate X, easily.

People need to remember we will have our phone folded MOST of the time. Samsung has this smaller outside screen that will make it only bearable to use. Huawei nailed it. There is still rough edges with foldable displays especially being scratch-prone but how Huawei did it is way better.

I'm not really into tablets though especially Android tablets. Never was. I think iPads are the best tablets and I'm not into them either. So foldables is not something I'm dying to jump into right away. I think foldables would be great for TVs and gaming handhelds like the next Nintendo Switch.

Foldable displays are something quirky enough for Nintendo to use. Nintendo has been one of the most innovative companies of the last 35+ years and I'm not really a Nintendo fan anymore. Not since the 1990s anyway. I've become a PlayStation fanboy. Nintendo could easily make a successor to the 3DS.

Foldables will work better on wearables, TVs, handhelds.. For smartphones, it's about merging with tablets and make the form factor smaller when closed but thicker. Can eliminate phablets altogether. Then again, phablets are the norm these days in sizes. Something different at least. Not the same ol' slabs.

The "vertical fold" should be called "horizontal fold", because the folding axis is a horizontal line.
This is the best option for those who like compact phones.
The rest is for those that like compact tablets.

How about " A non foldable option par se' " . Why do we need foldable phones ? Surely any foldable phone will bring your screen into a tablet size. All foldable phones offer is a folding tablet .

Foldable phones need extra battery life or batteries , Increased size and weight to put in a pocket.

Give me a single screen phone with a 4500 mah battery a decent screen and ram and processor.

Folding phones are just an expensive gimmick .

IMHO, neither of these are worthy. The real fold advantage will come from a phone that can wrap comfortable around my wrists

No matter who wins the poll, mateX got the best design, that is if you want notch less screen, best selfie/main cameras with a space for big and multiple sensors.
Wouldn't say it's the best design that last year's, but it's best for now.

Wonder why Huawei didn't put the camera protrusion on top instead on the side as it would have made the phone smaller. Perhaps the asymmetry when the phone is unfolded.

Only vertical fold make any sense because you will get a compact 6-inch phone.

How is samsung #1 in this poll? This one is clearly inferior as it has another unnecessary screen on the outside.

Alien , 03 Mar 2019I really don't care which side it folds as long as it doesn... moreBoth the Fold & the X have a crease in the middle. Samsung just hid it better during their presentation with their black butterfly wallpaper & careful handling. It's very similar to how they hide their fugly punch hole cameras with wallpapers with blackened corners, which itself is similar to how Apple hide the notch on their iPhones.

Pay attention & you'll easily find the crease on both phones. It's a problem that will take a few generations to improve. Foldables in 2021-22 should be free from such impurities.

Definitely Samsung Fold. It looks very nice and I'd buy one too. It needs a little more tweaking and a better pricing policy. They should include a 3.5 port, the notch should be redesigned, the battery should be bigger and the price should not exceed USD1200. This product has market for everybody not just the so called high end users. Good job sammy, refine the product asap and you won't be disappointed.

I don't usually like Huawei, but their foldable design here is the best. Mobile phone screens are already not protected, and the Samsung-style design only protects the bigger screen and adds more cost and thickness. Hopefully Huawei's foldable design will also eliminate the horrid trend of front camera notches and holes. We should also then get the best quality cameras for selfies. Unfortunately, Huawei also left off the 3.5 mm jack despite there being plenty of space in their design for it.
