Shootout: Nokia 9 PureView gets us closer to the beauty of real bokeh

02 March 2019
The Nokia 9 PureView could potentially have the best scene depth-sensing around as our first camera samples show.

Given the fact that it's using a penta camera setup, this shouldn't be surprising. Interested to see how it stacks up with the competition with its penta camera setup though

Also there's no such thing called "true" or fake photography, the image through our eyes have gone through a lot of processing and alteration + interpolation anyway. Our brain is like a computer and does computational imaging in real time(which means what we're seeing right now might not be what's actually there), so just embrace it when cameras start doing the same thing, yeah?

There are better options for lower price that even have the latest flagship chip in them. But well most of them will not end up in US too cause of the power fight US have with China

So basically all the cameras are only for crappy social media, all what it does is just focusing on different points to create a super bokeh?

And phones are nowhere near a good quality camers. These are all algorithms and cheap tricks cutting out true details and emphasizing things most common people like. This is not true photography.

How embarrassing for Apple. A $700 phone beats their overpriced $1000 phone in terms of camera quality. lol.

When will the phone manufacturers start to improve audio output of the devices. The audio output is like from old mp3 players like iPods. I really miss good sound quality products these days. Available ones are very expensive.

Buy this limited phone will not help you to learn and enjoy photography. Unless you do not really have one or you're fooling yourself thinking that some ridiculous sensors are going to give you the quality of a real camera.

I doubt that other companies will add 4 cameras just to make the bokeh more realistic. And even with 6 cameras (I count the Tof camera) I have seen Nokia 9 sample images with a very unrealistic depth of field. Maybe in the future one could add a dozen extremely small cameras that use an area of just a few cm².

"This leads to two advantages - the ability to create photos with a realistic defocus effect and the ability to snap a shot and choose a different focus point later (so if you've missed focusing on a person's face it could be fixed, potentially)."
No, in this case the term "refocus" doesn't mean refocusing. It only means that you can choose which areas should be blurrred by software, so you change your virtual (!) focus, so you can not fix the focus when something is blurred due to the natural depth of field of the modules.
