Surprise! Photographer wins smartphone photgraphy award with a picture from ... a smartphone.
I'm scratching my head trying to figure out what this is supposed to prove.

Not a fan of Sony smartphones recently. However, they always have the largest camera sensors until the 48MP that first appeared in the Huawei.
I hope Sony keeps pushing camera tech and be a leader l

Alex, 15 Mar 2019It was about most people with mirrorless and DSLR cameras, ... moreAt first I said, most photographer, not most people. Then I explained it using term of "advance photographer". Even enthusiast is learning how to be advance, not to rely on camera auto mode.

1/200 shutter speed is for old type of flash. Most modern HSS flash nowadays support much faster shutter speed.

When comes to photos Sony is one of the worst... moreStill, Sony Xperia flagship phone from last year have better photo quality than your bugy, lagy HMD "PureView" 9, at least, Sony have normal camera app.. Man it seems you have really serious problem, because in every article from Samsung flagship, from Sony, from HTC, you complain about something, just saying. Ok, we get it you have mobile phone store and only sell brands like LenovoRola, Xiaomi, HMD and similar, but, maybe it's time to be realistic, at least about camera quality, video recording quality etc.. Only one OEM from China can compete with rest 'known' for years OEM in mobile industry, and that is not Foxconn made HMD, but Huawei :D

derunningman, 15 Mar 2019I don't think so. For the aperture or shutter priority mode... moreIt was about most people with mirrorless and DSLR cameras, not about advanced photographers. And the fact is that they mostly use aperture and shutter priority, or Program mode.
And portrait photographers with flash(es) doesn't use high shutter speeds. They use something like 1/200 sec (usual sync speed for flashes is 1/200) if they wan't to exclude the ambient light, and much slower speeds if they use the flash as fill for the ambient light.

Then good luck trying to find a good GND or CPL filter for a phone, i think there isnt any. And people are high af if they are thinking that phone in manual mode can achieve similar bokeh portrait as in dslr/mirrorless.

They will choose the best photo.
She was given the award, then she told she used Sony phone to take the photo.
                                That is the whole story.
Sony heard about that and published on their website.

If Sony keeps the IMX400 for themselves, that's that.
Skill is you, not the camera.

Are you suggesting that my first ever camera (Smena 8-M) would in similar conditions do identical pics to my last film camera (Zenit 12XS)? Because sensor (film in this matter) is identical? Dude, you shouldn't talk if you don't have slightest clue. So much aspects matter; lenses, skill even shutter type. So it's not only you. It's you and the camera.
Talking about sensors, isn't IMX400 exclusive to Sony flagships only? And for the record, point and shoot is for social media folks in my opinion. Can't win contests with that.
