While ads showed a standard banner, a script was playing multiple videos in the background.

Anonymous, 23 Mar 2019Virus = shady code So basically THIS IS A VIRUS! But thi... morethis is the reason you use apple- a "shady code" is not necessarily a virus; a computer virus is like a bilogical virus as it needs host devices to spread and multiply to other devices. this here is a code embedded in an ad platform that can be added to either a web page or a web-based app, so even ios is vulnerable. the shady code stays on that ad and not being spread from device to device. you only are affected if you visit a web page that has the infected ad or if a web-based app loads an infected ad; in both cases the "shady code" does not stay in your device, so it is not a virus.

remember when the internet doesn't shows ads at all ?

Anonymous, 23 Mar 2019ios "just costs" 3 times the price. Does it really? You're getting an almost guaranteed 5 years support for it. Good luck getting even 2 years out of Android unless it's Google's own phone... When you have to buy a 500€+ phone just to get latest major Android version, iOS all of a sudden isn't all that expensive...

A browser... moreWow, so now you're telling iphone users not to use Safari to browse shady websites that have scammy ads or malware? So you're now essentially confirming the truth that iphones and Macs are not immune to malware and scammy ads! Go uninstall your archaic Safari browser in your iphone if you can uninstall it and replace it with a more secure and modern browser. And for once, stop spreading fake news malware and scammy ads are an 'android only' thing.
Here, read this comprehensive lists of iOS appstore apps riddled with malware:

The one that dont get the difference is you. A browser is that, a browser, its not an app designed to fool you and show ads on the background like the ones on this article.

You can surface sites and not be interrupted by annoying ads or videos, be on android, mac, linux, windows, iOS, wp, firefox, chrome, safari, opera, vivaldi, tor, ie, you name it. Or you can go to shitty sites and be inundated by them, and even by that, you can always know if a pop up is playing trying to do something.

What's worse. The web is not entirely regulated and you can put whatever you want in it, but the play store from where this scam came from is regulated, but google dont care because probably they are still making money from that ads.

The Safari web browser on your iphone is not an app because its a browser and it is immune to scammy ads, right? You poor naive iphone user getting convinced by Apple's fake news that
iphones/ipads and Macs are immune to malware.

advertising scams, viruses, blah, blah, blah, and how iphones and IOS is superior, much better, and 'just works'.

Well first of all, the article never mentioned the battery draining apps are EXCLUSIVE to android phones. Here read the link below so you iphone users will wake up from your iphone superiority complex and stop spreading fake news that iphones are 'immune' to rogue apps, viruses and scamming ads:

                            https://steamcommunity.com/discussions/forum/12/2741975115073121519/

Iphones are so 'yesterday'. The 'image' and 'prestige' era of the iphone era is over since last year with its steep market downfall. I don't see it making a market comeback. Nobody is buying an overpriced iphone anymore for 'status symbol' except for the very few truly rich. It's a passe' brand that has nothing better to offer anymore other than raw processor speed which no iphone user ever puts into good use with the usual Facebook, Youtube and Candy crush dominating their iphone usage pattern except for a VERY TINY minority.

While flagship android phones have moved on to punch hole, waterdrop and periscope all screen designs with 5G capable processors, to quadruple cameras with long telephoto and ultrawide cameras in additional to regular wideangle cameras, depth cameras and ever larger F/1.4 apertures, superb HDR and excellent low light performance as well us fast UNDER display fingerprint scanners, the iphone X successors are languishing with the same recycled NOTCHED face ID designs, the same archaic camera hardware and software features, the absence of 5G and the same outdated iOS operating system with restrictive and suffocating experience fit for kids and perhaps a few adults who only care about fashion statement. Enough of your 'iphone is the bestest, superest phone in universe' and 'the iphone deserving an obscene $1,000+++ price tag' fake news!
