31 March 2019
There have been rugged, adventurous handsets since the dawn of cell phones. It was flagship smartphones that made the genre popular, though.

"Why take the chance when there are so many other options? Sony Mobile shoots themselves in the foot for pulling out of multiple markets. Let them suffer the consequences."

Because I like the experience I get from Sony devices, it's that simple. Everyone has a preference. And that's exactly why there are so many phone makers.

It's my money, so I'm entitled to make my own choice.

Anonymous, 01 Apr 2019Yeah buy online and miss out on the local guarantee. Very smart.Warranties are overrated and don't cover much of anything when you look into them. Smartphones these days are very reliable. That's why more and more people are buying their phones online now. I've personally not had any issues with phones purchased from online in the past 5 years. Or ever, really.

So many Sony evangelists on this website. Sorry to say that Sony has exited so many markets that it's impossible to buy an Xperia phone in most countries. No use promoting the Sony brand here.

After my first incident of an accidental spill (beer glass knocked over onto phone) the other week, it's certainly a big relief knowing you have a smartphone with one of the highest waterproof ratings on the market (XZ3 is both IP65 and IP68). Just rinsed it off, and it was good to go again.

Would you happen to have any links?
Anyone here know what the cheapest IP68 phone is, based on RRP and not price cuts/discounts?

Then we can compare it to the same phone from the same brand without IP68 certification, also compare it to similar phones from competitor brands, and finally check BoM between the products.

Doing this we can extrapolate a realistic figure to how much it costs to add IP68 certification, not an unreliable % but a more standard $ value.

Folks, iPhone 11 or whatever the name, will have IP69K Waterproof up to 50m or 5ATM. In conjunction with that Apple might axe the lightning port in the process.

For me it is unimportant how much the phone costs, I will protect it equally since I care about the my stuff in general. Destroying stuff just because of being careless is a waste of money independent of how much it is. I'm from Germany and I feel like the mentality here is similar to mine. Not sure if this is a cultural thing.

There are several waterproof cameras, actually rated for submersion depth. Phone should be able to do the same thing.
