31 March 2019
There have been rugged, adventurous handsets since the dawn of cell phones. It was flagship smartphones that made the genre popular, though.

I have had two xperias go for a swim in the river, at least a metre deep, and after shaking water out of the earpiece they were fine.

When I clicked on the article called Counterclockwise, I was really expecting a thorough, long article with proper history.

The one thing they all have in common, easy replaceable batteries, I have 7 old ones and 6 brand new un-used for the HTC's and about 24 for the p series, and even with non-working properly batteries in them, if hooked up to wall charger or power pack, they all still work ??

In 2015 I had Xperia C, in 2016 I had money enough to buy flagship and this phone was given to a family member that is still using the phone daily.

I have seen many users of note 4 that got new battery after 18 months.
Many iphone users buy new battery within 24 months.

I'm really baffled why IP68 is not becoming a standard feature for such a portable device like a smartphone. There were hopes when Sony was really pushing it, but now, only Sony, Samsung, and Apple do it, and only for their flagships. Samsung Galaxy A was my last resort for an affordable IP68 phone (even though they are still expensive for their spec), but then that didn't even last, with the current A lineup missing the rating.

I wonder what's the issue. Does the certification cost a lot of money? Or does it increase support cost by a ton? Or is it simply because most consumers don't care (until they drop their phone in the toilet/pool)?

Protect it like you protect your body, it will last long. How many time you damage your body? What are the odds that happen every year, right. Why are you even opting $1000 phone if you feel like you can't afford it.

Not just Samsung S5 (and its mini sibling) was water resistant with replaceable battery but also Motorola Defy(?) or atleast mini XT320 I had a couple of years ago well under $100 brand new. So water resistance ≠ sealed battery. It's all about business and planned obsolescence.

Sam, 31 Mar 2019Mine battery is also too good after 2 years bcoz i dont pla... moreWrong. Heat, time, state of charge and cycles kill the battery. If the game is not intense and doesn't heat the battery then it is not any different from watching videos or web browsing for as long.

Lithium Ion. Li-Ion battery. Also li-po batteries.
Heat at 40°C low degration. At 60°C battery brakes down.

Time is a factor. 2 years 20% mAh lost. 3 years 35% with short circuiting. Bloats at somepoint.

Cycles depends. Mostly 500 charge cycles. Battery is charged by amount of 500 0-100%. Meaning a cycle is NOT how many times your battery goes 0-100%.

Charge state. Do you let your battery to 0%? Really bad for battery. Do you charge keeping your phone 40-60% constantly? Good but too much effort so not feasiable. Do you charge to 100%? Not that bad but if you can keep phone 20-80% better but again requires effort but this is easier than keeping at 40-60%.

Best water resistant phones are Sony. I had all Sony flagship or Premium phones, only phones that did not survive water was Z and Z3 Compact. Swiched to Samsung and S9+ fingeprint reader died after being in water. My brother Galaxy S9+ died two days after it was in water. He saw water in camera. After that I am back to Sony because I think they are the best made phones although they have little problems with touch (only firs rev. of phones).

2008 nokia, samsung phones in school were built terible then budget phones also not survived. 2016 phones died from water. Thats my story. I hate mobile phone.
