They can discount all others as well.
There are lot of other phones from a much better brands out to buy
and for a much more friendly price.

Funny seeing it discontinued while apple still selling 3+ year old phones in their stores.
We bash apple for pushing users to upgrade and forget companies that force users to upgrade because there's no other choice. Unless they swith to another brand.

Pixel 2 is still the best 5" phone out there

love my 2 xl. Battery still lasts a day and half easily, runs buttery smooth, looks and feels good too. Hated the notch on the 3 and if its the same on the 4 then i wont be changing to that either,

And you need the last versions for compatibility.

Look at this video (and this is for iOS 9 in the same generetion phone, not for iOS 12):

And now we have the Pixels, for iPhone like quality phones.

RIP notch-less Pixel, Nexus Series. We will miss the times when notch cutout was never a thing in Google smartphones. Good riddance to the jack-less Pixel 2 Series though.

Google Pixel 2 officially PROBLEMS discontinued

I feel, except the first edition the Pixels have been nothing but disaster for buyers. I feel Nexus line, without tomtoming that it was premium, flagships etc provided better value at half the pixel price! Now hearing that Pixel mobiles with mid-range specs, that would probably seal the fate against Google's hardware ventures!

But clearly they are not in Google’s favor. Samsung is now a big brand and even back then, they want their Galaxy brand into the Nexus phone, which I’m sure it irked Google. Huawei blew it with the 6P, having a poor build quality and other issues. Add on with Huawei building its own brand with Leica, I don’t think they are interested in working with Google anymore.

So there is little chance they will manufacture phones for Google, and I don't think Google would feel safe to do it. LG also produce high-end phones, but in much fewer quantities now, so Google may feel safe to find it producing future phones, IMO.
