Samsung has its semiconductor, display and sensor business too. And as a bonus military contracts are in place. What does apple have once phones are out of picture? laptops? those with 4 percent share in market? watches, which (gasp) require iphones to work? tablets ? which are on a record slump? Believe it or not, their entire ecosystem is centered around iphone, once that is out, they are out, it will take time, but it will surely happen

Phone Reviewer, 19 Apr 2019Yeah, I totally agree. Apple knows that customers will pay ... moreNokia failed because they were slow to release their products and didn’t see the trend to android soon enough. Also, USA never supported Nokia (Symbian smartphones) so when America supported iOS and android, the rest of the world followed. It didn’t help when Nokia picked windows phone and accelerated Symbian death. So no, apple will never go the Nokia way because apple has a closed ecosystem and they are a premium company. Samsung is the company that most ressembles Nokia as it has all kind of products from low to high, but Samsung succeeds in releasing up to date hardware despite note7 fire, years of boring flagship releases, etc. Their only problem is the slow and poor software upgrades but as long as other android oems are like that, Samsung will survive.

Every year apple pays other companies to manufacture their products from intel and the 5G modems to qualcom with the internals. Also to mention that samsung was selling apple their screens for a premium which was smart of samsung. Apple is getting into a big pickel cause all the companies are not wanting to work with them because they keep burning bridges. Apple is a massive company and the only thing thats keeping them afloat is their ecosystem that was stated previously and the marketing. Other than that they are trash.

Consumer will continue to demand cheaper and cheaper to no end. And you will have to come up with New tech to justify new price point in the future. Look at OnePlus Pro / OnePlus, their price is on the rise.. and they getting massive resistance against it.

Netflix, spotify and whateva subscription also have to pay apple store a cut of their earnings. So there’s no shortage of income.

You may hate Apple and how it do business. Puzzled why it still alive and kicking despite lower sales number. But it simply works and it is too large to fall.

Companies would not make expensive phones if there was no market for it but I guess there is. Whether it is a house, a car, clothes, anything. There will be cheap versions and expensive versions. The people that buys these expensive things don't go around complaining as to why you guys buy cheap phones now do they? So why hate when they buy expensive phones? With THEIR money? It's not your money man so go buy your inexpensive phone and be happy with it? How does that sound?

They need the phones to sell to trap users in service, you think apple music is better than Spotify? Apple TV is better than prime, HBO or Netflix? The service model only works because how well it's integrated with the hardware they sell, if they don't sell hardware, they won't be able to sell services..

People aren't replacing premium phones as frequently as they used to, so revenue must come from other sources than just equipment sales (ie., app store and the likes).

I may go as far as saying that Apple actually has more sane business model than long established Android flagship manufacturers, who are now seeing their sales go away to the emerging Chinese brands.

It’s always funny to see someone comparing Apple to Nokia. They literally doesn’t have anything common. Apple isn’t going anywhere, they have huge userbase and their own ecosystem and most loyal fans and they keep making huge amount of money every q.

Nokia biggest problem was that they didn’t had anything to hook their users. When something better came, people just jumped to iOS and Android and didn’t look back. Leaving from iOS ecosystem is not easy at all, neither from Android. That’s why there’s not many switchers among OS. But Nokia just didn’t had anything how they could kept their users.

Before Apple is heading to Nokia path, that would mean new ”iPhone” which would change the whole industry and even then Apple would have all the money and skills to follow the trend, Nokia didn’t had those either.

Anonymous, 19 Apr 2019Apple is no longer industry innovator - look at the camera ... moreApple is never a hardware centric company. They are a software company, but with such concern about its software, that they make their own hardware.. trusting no other makers in their core products.

Since a few years ago, phone sales are tanking. They are aware of it. So you can see the major switch in their behaviour.. iOS12 good performance to lock in as much generation of iPhones as possible. March 2019, focus on service subscriptions. Multiple versions of iPhones iPads to slow down the poor sales.

They are smart. You sell an iPhone, you get profit from a iPhone. You sell a service, you get profit monthly.

Same idea as loot boxes, season pass, and all that in AAA games..

Even Sony, Nintendo, Microsoft knows this.. selling you the console at a slight loss, so you buy their games and subscriptions.

Honestly I love iOS more than Android. I hope that they make its NFC, bluetooth and things not exclusive so I can use such NFC/bluetooth with any products.
Second, I hope Apple iPhone learn it from Blackberry's experience.

The problem is economics. Phones are getting better and both the mid market and low end. I haven't bought a flagship device in a few years because the mid market phones have caught up to them. In fact, in some cases their actually more convenient. Prime example is the ability to install SD cards and the headphone jack. Flagship phones? Nope, but that $300 unlocked moto, or the Asus zenphone, or the cheaper Samsungs. Even my Key2. There's just less incentives to buy the flagship. And apple sells flagship.

The same is with Andriod world - huge phones with less bezels, which i don't care, without headphone jack and some kind if notches.
I'm currently using SONY XZ compact and ut is great for me. Don't care about the bezels. The size of the screen is enough for me. I've headphone jack in a compact size.
The only thing that make me move to iOS is if they stop compact line and in the same time Apple produce new SE or similar.
