No problems there with lowlights dynamic range at all too.

Only "problem" with numerous Xperia dynamic range rants is, as I always stated, HDR on Xperias is not automatic, but does a darn good job in lowlights when its applied.
And numerous testers, Arena, or Dxo Mark types, never tests Xperias lowlights with HDR on.... else comments about Xperias lowlights would be much more favorable.

Still remember the days when Xperia fans here say that multiple cameras are gimmicky.

Camera quality is OK for a flagship device.
But it's not spectacular. Not Jaw-dropping.

Even midranger Xperia 10+ camera doesnt have any problems with high contrast scenes and does really well:

So the flagship most certainly wont have problems too.

Nice show off, but in smartphone photography software is everything. That is where Sony is lacking.

So I just watched the whole video and here are my thoughts:

First pic - This is probably a very challenging situation for smartphone camera sensors, where there's a very bright sky and a lot of shadow details to be exposed, and given that it's the ultrawide camera (not the best sensor that the Xperia 1 has), it actually did good. I've seen better, but that's not a bad picture at all.

Second pic - Again this is another tricky situation, and I must say, I'm really impressed at how it exposed both the sky and the shadows very well, but maybe because it triggered the Superior Auto's Backlight scene, which applied some sort of HDR algorithm to the image, as opposed to the first one. Overall, this is one very good shot, and just on par for what I expect from a flagship camera phone.

Third pic - The background sky could still do some better exposure, but the overall image looks really fine and definitely on par with what others could take. In fact, it's actually surprising that it didn't completely blow out the highlights completely like previous Xperia cameras did. The detail is also quite good, with little to no sharpening artifacts visible, but that may be YouTube's video compression, so I'll hold my breath on detail assessment instead.

Fourth pic - In the viewfinder, it appears that the shadows are underexposed, but when it was processed, the end-result is actually good, which indicates some improvements in software processing.

Fifth pic - A similar telephoto picture as the fourth pic, and the same interpretations as well.

Sixth pic - Once again an ultrawide shot with excellent handling of exposure. You know, this is great and actually one of the better ultrawide images that I've seen from a smartphone. I'm really getting excited about the dynamic range fix on Xperia 1, and hopefully everything goes the right way this time.

To sum up, this is a great setup, and definitely comparable to the Galaxy S10 cameras, and maybe better than the iPhones and Pixels (in photo, video Idk yet).
The P30 Pro would remain the king in low light still I suppose, though the Xperia 1 actually somehow had better dynamic range in daylight images (I assume because I've seen similar cases on the P30 Pro, and it often doesn't handle the highlights that well, and even the S10 and Pixel 3 handle them better).

I'm a little bit concerned about its super wide angle lens which uses a lot smaller sensor than the competitions, but nonetheless the camera hardware seems to be a significant upgrade over the one found on XZ3. Hopefully the software processing will be equally good.

SpiritWolf, 19 Apr 2019The sky is visibly cloudy. And i really don't understand al... moreWell, the last Sony phone i used was the XZ Premium, and i was rather disappointed with the camera. It had the same 19 MP "MotionEye" camera that they used in XZ2 & XZ3, so any improvements would entirely be software based.

In any case, I hope you're right. Sony makes decent phones, so it would be nice to see them improve their weak points.

Its when the environment has high contrast scene, u will definitely see that some of the whites are clipping, crushed shadows, overblown highlights especially on low lights. Thats the problem with all previous Sony phones.

U now using P30 Pro right? How was it when compare side by side with XZ3? Actually i'm really hoping Xperia 1 will fix all those weakness i mentioned.

And i really don't understand all those remarks about Sony phone cameras narrow dynamic range. When i had XZ3 i tried it out in extreme lightning conditions. Like snowy pine forest in broad sunlight. A lot whites, a lot of shadows, a lot of reflecting sunlight. It managed pretty well even without HDR. My friends S9 'refused' to take a pic without HDR. And if he did, it was a mess.

Dynamic range doesn't seem very good. Blown out sky as usual on a Sony phone.
