Weekly poll: Do you use dark themes?

05 May 2019
Are you in for the battery saving and the blending of bezels, or you prefer bright white backgrounds.

Dark mode is much more beneficial on OLED screens than LCDs because regardless of whether or not the screen is dark or white. LCDs use a backlight because it is a transmissive display. Hence, LCDs use the same amount of power whether the content is black or white, the only benefit LCDs will get from dark mode is viewing comfort especially at night.

On the other hand, since OLED is an emissive display, dark mode saves battery by turning off pixels on black content. But on all white or bright content, OLED actually uses more power than LCD, which is the incentive for dark mode.

It's very unfortunate that Chrome, which is my number 1 app when it come usage wise still doesn't fully support dark theme out of beta. It has issues as if you try to switch between tabs the fonts on the tabs don't show, which forced me to switch back to light

I'm on the fence because dark theme is awesome until you go outside in the sun and then you can't see a damn thing, whereas white works in all environments albeit lowering brightness indoors.

I am 100% for dark/black themes. Ever since I've installed Android One on my S8+, it has always been on dark mode. And before it, I always had rooted phones with xposed modules.
I totally dislike white /light themes. Especially because I am a bit photophobic and using white themes makes my eyes hurt.
I only wish they would let us choose the accent colors. I'm a big fan of black and red themes.
Android One is cool, but I don't like the status bar icons..

But i do use a darkthemes just because on a daily sunlight letters are more visible than on a white themes or backrounds.

Apple did it best. True tone colours. Adaptive colours depending on your general lightning. Not just dark and bright.

They should take it to the extreme thou.. like totally change the UI colours.

I always use dark mode. Even on my laptop. For browsers that don't have build in dark mode I use add-ons. I have always loved Mozilla Firefox android but lately I've discovered that the Samsung browser has built in dark mode and I've switched.

Shanti Dope, 06 May 2019Since when did black and white get removed from the color space??we are talking about dark and light preferences, not about black and white colors.

The black theme, it works better ))))

Well, Google did the research themselves.

Dark mode saves power on OLED screens, simply because less backlight means less power used. Black is perfect, because it means no backlight at all. For LCD screens backlight is tied to brightness, and is never really off, so Dark Mode changes nothing but your viewing experience.

Always dark themes. Browser has DarkReader plugin to make pages dark, even if they don't offer it themselves. White themes are killing my eyes and look annoying overall.

                                      of course black
it's cooler, better, save battery power, easy on the eyes, and not glaring
plus bonus it is slightly more difficult for people to peep at your phone like in a subway or lift compared to white.
I change it the second dark mode is available or tweak it example chrome for dark mode.
                                      Dark mode > white
