This is a worrisome trend. People use phone in the dark.. So they demand dark mode.
While i have no quarrel with dark mode or normal. Its the habit of using phone in dark places that is bad. Dark mode in bright place is also bad.. if the contrast is off.. people have to strain their eyes.
While there is no use changing people's habits... A phone have ambient sensor. Phone makers should leverage on this, and set light to dark mode and ultimately to ultra dark mode depends on the light in the environment.

I have been using black wallpaper since the java & symbian era, since phone screen resolution is 128x128 pixel and continue doing so since using ios and settle for android until now.
So before this dark-mode is on the rage like now, for me dark-oriented screen is important cause it's not hurting my eyes when using phone in low light environment or when night comes.

Anonymous, 06 May 2019i remember, prior to lollipop release, android used to be i... moreyes. when google pushed for the material design everything has been changed to light/white theme. at least some of the oems have realized their fans generally do not appreciate the glaring white themes so they have offered theming engines in as little as a year after google introduced lollipop. when i was using amoled devices, i never really noticed any difference in temrs of battery usage whether it be that i am using light or dark theme. it really is more for aesthetics for me as even now that i am using lcd screens i still am opting to use dark themes, and on my razer phones 1 and 2 i use timed dark themes thru nova launcher.

I set the dark theme automatically to my device using the LCD screen so the dark theme for the power saver doesn't work

absolutely 100% dark theme. light theme only can hurt your eyes & wasting battery.

Light theme is fresher imo. Eagerly awaiting Windows 1903 for the light theme.

i remember, prior to lollipop release, android used to be in dark mode, then, they switched to light themes and are announcing dark mode as a new feature. Looks like they are out of ideas for new features, anyway, it's good to know i can use android in dark mode again.

Dark mode or theme, as my smartphones have been OLED for the last 8 years. They are easy on the eyes, especially at night, and saves battery with black areas as pixels off. I don’t get it why this is not a default. I have to put on the high contrast theme on Galaxy phones, and have set the triple press power button on the iPhone to invoke the smart invert.

Will be nice for GSMarena to stop telling people dark theme saves battery life, cause it ain't true, the only theme that saves battery is black. And that is because the pixel in the black area do not turn on. Minding the fact their is almost absolutly nothing black ( besides the windows phone) we can safetly say,their is no battery saving here. That is why devices with LCD panels on the contrary with people believe, actually very often have longer battery life then those with amoled. I would like to see that proof that dark theme save battery.

It's very helpful for visually impaired people, like me!!
Todqy's app qnd OS use terrible colors and small font sizes that kill my eyes!
Hope we can se lt dark themes in apps very soon

If I had a LED screen in my phone I would be using dark theme, but since I don't like dark backgrounds, I use a light theme. Light backgrounds are much easier on the eyes (ever read something on a dark background and then saw weird colors in front of your eyes)?
