OnePlus 7 and 7 Pro won't have an IP rating for water and dust resistance because it's expensive

The company chose to buy a bucket instead, and dunk one of its new phones in it.

CompactPhones5ever, 04 May 2019False. Doogee S40. Released in MARCH 2019. Costs ... moreValid point , but also take into the account that those Chinese phones have bad software whereas oneplus invests a lot in tat department also. So when u ask me if investing software , dash charging is important OR investing in IP rating is important ? , then I would rather skip getting the phone IP rated.
Just my humble opinion.

This ad might pose an ethical problem but they also have a disclaimer on the bottom, so they aren't exactly straight up lying to your face either.

            Doogee S40.

            Released in MARCH 2019.

            Costs €73.

            DOES have IP68 rating.

            Seventy-three euros! That's L I T E R A L L Y 1 less zero in the price tag compared to OnePlus 7.

How much do you guys think the IP rating costs? If it added 20€ to the price tag, all these chinese sub-100$ rugged phones couldn't exist.

"The certificate costs too much" argument is absolute 100% pure BULLSH*T. OnePlus is bloating the price while cutting corners. Ridiculous that there're still people defending them even in this.

              >sub-100$ chinese phones (e.g. e&l w5s, zoji z7, ulefone armor x2, blackview bv5500, e&l w7 etc. etc.) have ip rating because customers want to know their phones survive some misusage

                    1) you get caught by rain
                    2) you drop your phone in the sink or toilet
                    3) your phone is dirty and you open faucet to clean it.

That is why they call "water resistant" not "waterproof"
