Common, with better technology, speed is everything. Quad core uses less battery consumption while increasing speed, hopefully 4G speed catches up with phone technology and delivers lightning speed surfing.

Oops this phone would have heating problem, I guess.
It will get heated like that of the laptops.
I read Samsung galaxy s2 is facing lot of issue with heat, on a long call, playing game.

Anonymous, 20 Jan 2012pardon my ignorance, but who needs a quad core on a PHONE? ... moreYou clearly don't get it, this is no different than the evolution we have seen in computers over the years. The deviation is that the cellphone market is far less conservative and it's development after the release of iPhone G1 has been explosive! So people don't cope with it... people who are just out after a simple phone has several alternatives for that which are mostly single core devices with great battery life. However the smart phone market is a whole other thing where performance is very important for the general use of the device. Sure battery does indeed take a hit, but this is just newborn problems which will get sorted in due time.

this is just silly, instead on focusing on how to improve those anemic batteries, theyve insisted on these so called better chips that will suck your batt bigtime, pffft big buzz but little to no additional benefit for a normal user

This phone looks really good but how about the battery..it become useless if the battery is still mediocre. How about putting solar cell on the phone like the calculator and that make more sense...

Anonymous, 20 Jan 2012pardon my ignorance, but who needs a quad core on a PHONE? ... moreIt's not ignorance my friend, it's simply narrow mindedness (if it's even a word)
"Why do you need" is the single most destructive set of words humanity can possibly imagine.
Why do I need? because in technology there is a very clear answer for the old question "what came first, the chicken or the egg?" where the egg is high end hardware and the chicken is software built to use that power.
Hence the narrow mind. You can't perceive the future, you decided we don't need hardware based on today's software, which is a HUGE mistake. always ask yourself "what hardware do I need for FUTURE software", and since you don't know, the stronger the better.

I think dual core is more than enough for the smartphone.

even they put 8 cores processors ,its just useless to me.even pc applications barely use more than 2 cores

Quad core = more expense. Meanwhile WP7 and Symbian and Meego are doing everything that Android does, but with lesser specs and at the same speed.

This is like the Mp race all over again. When will manufacturers realise that optimisation is the way forward?

The only benefit this has is for games. Which, unless they are designed with touch innovations in mind, suck very very hard. Racing games just about pull it off, but are never realistic. Shooters are just pointless. Platform games have characters on rails.

Make games with touchscreens in mind, like Angry Birds. Leave the big boy games to consoles and handhelds.

Anonymous, 20 Jan 2012pardon my ignorance, but who needs a quad core on a PHONE? ... moreThe addition of core is to reduce the frequency bump needed to deliver more performance. You should be looking at performance per watt and other parameters but not seeing it quad core intel CPU. It can have 200 cores for all that matters but the only indicator is performance per watt, not the number of cores. Have you questioned why GPUs need hundreds of cores whereas CPUs only 4-8 cores?

In increase in processing power is immenient. More content rich apps and OS are loading in rapidly, and its inevitable to load more power per watt in processors.

[deleted post]Of Course they were using a bluetooth controller, but then again if you were going to play games such as riptide HD where the accelerometer of the phone is what matters how would that impair your gaming and make it "awkward"? You're just as ignorant as the guy claiming that no one can put a Galaxy Note into their pockets which I proved him wrong through 2 videos and another user proved him wrong through personal experience.

[deleted post]LOL I know what you said, you were trying to make up an excuse how it would be "awkward" since the weight and stiff-ness of the HDMI cable itself is on par to the phone, however I already explained to you that via a micro HDMI or MHL adapter the weight and stiffness would not matter. You do realize the adapter has distance on the cord do you not?

Of course I wouldn't understand because explanations and excuses from those uneducated or ignorant is hard to understand.

These guys seem to be playing on a phone connected via MHL just fine.
