20 May 2019
This affects more than just Huawei - consumers, Android, Google, even competitors will have to deal with the fallout from this.

Anonymous, 21 May 2019is it possible for Apple to be banned in China?I suppose China could retaliate in a number of ways as they dont really play by the rules but a ban would have further detrimental affect on China's economy when taking into account the number of employees employed by Apple directly in China and would affect supply chains there too.

Shanti Dope, 21 May 2019Yeah, have fun using that new OS while most content creator... moreThey could do by lowing the revenues per app. Apple and Google earn 30% per app. That's a lot. Plus the anual fee of $99 by Apple while Google only charges a single payment of $25 for create the Google Play account.

That gives Huawei and others a lot margin to create a new stores that let developers port their apps at low cost with more profit margins. And with enough customers base that would be success. Instead of go lonely they could talk with other chineses manufacturers and do it together for a even bigger customers base.

Of course Google will try its best to force OEMS to install its services by default and exclusive although, for example, in Europe they can't by law. If they put the effort and do ir right i really see an alternative viable. Plus they should join in a developer adventure for a new open source SoC that give them security about what a crap government could decide. And looking for a far future.

A solution could be for Google to do business from different places and have different versions of Android. Android US, Android Europe, Android Asia etc. The US government wouldn't get a say in how the international branches work. It Helps Google avoid such sanctions from affecting their business. If not Huawei should partner with Sailfish OS. It's an Android based OS, allow bootloader unlocking so users can root and install gapps. If not maybe installing Aptoide. Either way I'm Huawei, fantastic hardware! Absolutely gutted to hear what the US are trying to do to them. Spygate nonsense, just trying to protect Apple.

This will impact global sales. China blocks google services for a long time, so its users are accustomed to that.

One way is to double time, and develop competitive core apps that rival google’s. But thats extremely hard.. seeing nearly all are US based.. and people’s trust on the data sent.

Long term ban may fork android, increase confusion and the winner is Apple. And the rest will be sore losers.

Shanti Dope, 21 May 2019As if that'll do anything to affect them too much LOL Appl... morehmmm.... seems you're anti-chinese oems. oh, yeah, you hate xiaomi. i hate china as well, but not all oems; i love xiaomi, asus, and to some extent huawei. foxconn, apple's contractor in china makes phones for your favorite- sony, as well. see, oems still dictate what goes into the devices odms make for them, so the argument that apple will end up with far better quality devices by foregoing their chinese contractors is invalid. furthermore, apple's factory in india is actually still operated by foxconn. don't get me wrong- i am not defending china nor foxconn here, in fact i hate foxconn for their infamous maltreatment of their workers. i hate china even more- although they have good contributions to the world it is far outweighed by bad things they have so far done. let's just be fair though, not all chinese oem works for the chinese government.

BrokenLawShaw, 21 May 2019Now China should take action and ban iPhone devices in Chin... moreConsidering there aren't that many iPhone users in China, then it definitely won't hurt them in any way.
Apple can still continue selling their phones in other parts of the world and make a lot of profit from them, but Huawei might not even be able to sell a single phone that doesn't run Android very well, considering it's pretty much the core standard by most people when purchasing a phone.
Being a Huawei user means being one of the people not having access to all the best contents around the world, and if that alone doesn't make the user very disappointed already, then they should be aware that their phone will be more capable of collecting their private information and sent to the Chinese government.

sohail shafayat, 21 May 2019Build and Rely on your own OS. End of android monopoly.Yeah, have fun using that new OS while most content creators are focused on releasing their latest and greatest stuff on iOS and Android ONLY

Anonymous, 20 May 2019So will you continue using Android phones if Tencent pull o... morePUBG is just one of his/her examples for his/her point.
Tencent can pull their sh*t out of Google Play Store and people would hardly be affected by that, except for the gamers maybe.
The thing is, Huawei is in a BIG LOSS for not having access to most contents that revolve around the world.
Most app developers are only interested in optimizing their contents to both iOS and Android, and Huawei creating a new OS means another struggle to optimize an app, as it requires an entirely new set of codes, different programming language, hardware compatibilities, etc.
And even if developers decided to do all those complicated things, it would not be given that much emphasis, since most of their users will be using Android or iOS devices and not Huawei's OS, which means they'd be the least priority for making improvements.
Besides, developing a completely new OS alone is already a very expensive and difficult task, and then there's Apple and Google's patent against those who will try to somehow mimic their own OSes in some ways, and that means Huawei software engineers must be creative enough to create an entirely original OS that resembles absolutely NOTHING from Android or iOS, and if that alone doesn't cost them a lot of billion dollars, then their lack of sales due to people not being interested in a non-Android or iOS device will very likely pull them back down to the bottom.

China and Huawei will strike back. They are just thinking for the best way....block Apple in China? Raise taxes for Qualcomm, Apple, Microsoft?
USA is a 300 mil market, China 1.5 billion....pure math

Apple is moving to other countries to manufacture their products, so not having access to Chinese facilities mean absolutely NOTHING to them
If anything, it might even make their products FAR higher quality due to the lack of any Chinese components utilized in the making process

Motorola is in 3rd or 4th position interms of sales in US.
