21 May 2019
Unlocking the bootloader voids the warranty, and you won't receive any OTA updates from Asus in the future.

THE-TRUTH-REVEALER, 21 May 2019All good points, but just so that you don't get your hopes ... moreCan you please give me the source of that info? My SD 845 phone can record 4k60 up to 5 minutes, how a next generation records at lesser times?

AnonD-731363, 21 May 2019Man jack is dead such as removable batteries. SD card is ... moreJack is dead for you and is dead for me for the last 3 years my phones doesn't have. Still you and me are not the universe. and the world doesn't turn around you. Lots of people still care about this item.

SD card is another item that people care about and cry about. I've a NAS with 19TB but again the world doesn't turn around you or me.

Notch I care and lot's of people like me care. I would never buy a phone with that stupid invention. I just refuse to even consider a phone with that anormaly. Guess industry is on my side because they are shifting away from the notch.

Since DxOMark didn't review the new phone from Asus, lets assume the back camera of asus zenfone 6 is better than the last year zenfone 5 that had 90 points. One plus 7 have 86 and that its the pro version. Asus zenfone 6 uses back camera to take selfs so in my book +90 is better than 86..but i guess you can't count...or you don't want too. The only one lying here is you...

If you are cluless how clean is the new asus OS please don't come here to troll what is clear that you don't know what you are talking. just go do a tattoo of one plus brand on your head.

if asus have bootloader unlock tool and let you do whatever you want in your device you can even do yourself your own clean version of android.
Software you can change for whatever you want...hardware you can not.

    10% cheapear is a fact.

"a lot worse phone" is an opinion..and from a fanboy without any valid arguments.

I would not buy any of this two phones just because they are too big for my needs. But if anyone asks me what is the best deal, if its asus zenfone 6 or one plus 7? zenfone 6 easy pick.

Blutbad-fuchsbau, 21 May 2019If you guys don't like bootloader unlocking, then don't unl... moreAll good points, but just so that you don't get your hopes up...Zenfone 6 can record 4k60 for only 2 minutes. 4k@30fps is limited to 5 minutes.
I don't think that time is sufficient to record anything worthwhile...1080p at 60fps sounds good enough for me though. I agree with all your other points.

Hope Asus addresses this via a software update but I don't have high hopes...

If you guys don't like bootloader unlocking, then don't unlock it. People have a choice. That's what matters. Unlocking the bootloader allows us to root, and have a bunch of nice custom roms like Aosp Extended, Resurrection Remix, Pixel Experience, Lineage OS, etc. I'm currently using AEX(Aosp extended) and it's awesome, better than the ROMs that come with the phone as there are a bunch of shortcuts that can be added, and we can use nice themes, overclock the CPU, use a set of governors that can save a lot of battery power during heavy usage, etc. Custom roms give the phone so much potential, which are limited by stock roms.

Like I said, if you guys complaining about the bootloader being unlocked, you have a choice. Don't unlock the bootloader, and skip out on a bunch of great features, or don't buy the phone. I for one really badly needed custom roms, but most flagships with a top end snapdragon processor don't have it other than Oneplus. Now Asus thought of something, and they gave us what we've always wanted.

-S855 Top of the line Snapdragon chip.
-Notchless display, with an awesome cam, and can be used for selfies. Imagine selfie videos at 4k 60fps. Who wouldn't want that?
-5Ah battery, which will last us for 2 days on heavy use.
-Triple slot(2 sims and a micro sd all fit inside unlike the hybrid slots available in most high end phones)

This phone ticks all the boxes, and even adds a few, like the awesome cam, and top of the line SoC.

Now that the bootloader is unlockable, and kernel source code has been provided, Rom developers will support this phone in any way they can.

Anonymous, 21 May 2019really?? So that you can sell new phones more often? MY PHO... moreMan anything you install will contain spyware.
As soonas you agree with terms of use and services they have you and you have no idea which ata your phone is sharing and where.
Bootloader should always remains closed same for kernel.
Doing this means ASUS is a completely vulnerable phone and not worth to use, sell or should be banned from sales with this.
No mental person with healthy brain would damage the phone by customizing its main OS.

Anonymous, 21 May 2019EXCUSE ME???? I buy the phone, it's MINE, I can do WHATEV... moreIt's not that simple. It's a question of security. you buy the phone and if it's locked and you know it its locked you buy only if you want. If you want to delete or change the rom, it's your problem, the device its yours thats true, but it voids the warranty of the device.
all phones should be locked because unlocked you can steal other persons apps, make worms and create new builds and share the new app in other stores or forums links.
The creator of the app will not win 1 cent, because the app was stolen. and the new app will get your data because you installed an app without knowing it have a worm.~
it's all pretty open source code, bla bla bla...but when are stolen of all your data, or your phone stop working, please don't cry. you have what you pay.

Opening bootloader and allowing others to impact the base software of the phone should be ALWAYS PROHIBITED.
People who want this should learn how to amake an own phone from a scratch found on a scrapyard.
