21 May 2019
It's not clear if it will be reinstated during the 90-day delay in the ban on Huawei trading with US companies.

BigDisplay, 21 May 2019Lets see whats happend again as always when Trump attack Hu... moreAlready all Chinese phones inside China are using Android Phones without Google Apps with AOSP based Android but heavily customised version.

Lets see where Huawei goes I have a feeling Trump will allow Google to licensce Huawei if they pay for it

Anonymous, 22 May 2019Huawei sold over 200 million phones last year. Getting some... moreEven if they did do that, there's not enough apps. Only a fraction of that user base would do it, not to mention that Huawei will need funds to build an OS. I think it would be best to strike a deal, get Android back, and then work on a side OS for later independence from Android

The Good Shepherd, 21 May 2019Might be different this time. ZTE is not a state owned and... moreYeah, but that Plan B is just a bunch of air. Even if they started trying to make an OS, they'd have to do work on it for months, and Huawei can't be without business for that long. It would be infinitely smarter to suck it up and compromise, and make the OS on the side with access to software companies in America

It's not easy to build a new OS to replace Android. An OS need a huge app ecosystem to thrive.

Getting some of those custumers to switch to the new OS wouldn't be difficult. I think most sensible users would be willing to try it out. If they like it, they would stick with it. Android and iOS is getting a bit stale anyways, time for something new.

Never liked Huawei because of its high prices, but I will buy one if it comes with Huawei OS in the near future, sick of this CIA Google who thinks they rule the world...

Jim, 21 May 2019Hope we get symbian back or maybe a newer and better tizen.... moreAndroid & iOS have the monopoly, they are already a huge part of smartphone world.
Many say that Huawei will now have to make it's own OS(which it was already stated by them in the past that they had made 1 as a plan B) but as many of you saw in the past many new operating systems if they don't catch up fast, they end up dying or being forgotten.
It's hard for developers to port there apps to new operating systems.

Anyway they can still use the AOSP version of Android even if it's usually a bit behind etc.
Personally I don't see any other option(if the ban continues) than that, Huawei in China is already sell EMUI skinned android phones without Google related software(but filled with Chinese bloatware) and with it's own app store!

Note7 owner, 21 May 2019Resell value on huawei phones have just taken a good 20% drop. Just goes to show that money is just an idea really that can just fluctuate by news at a whim if we got up tomorrow and just decided money is nothing it's just nothing

Why did I respond like this... Guess I had nothing else to do

Being someone who's owned a lot of phones, but likes to keep using them for 4+ years. Huawei really delivered "lagless" phones after a long period of usage, unlike many competitors. They lagged, but not as much as samsung's mid to top rangers. I know this is dependent on many factors, but still, you get the point.

Q or not, the Mate 20 is a great phone that will outlive many if you're not picky about security updated.

ZTE is not a state owned and will therefore accept the US deal due to pressure from shareholders. But Huawei is state affiliated though they claim to be a private company owned by their employees, LOL) and would not want US eyes prying into their inner workings.
By the way, Huawei's founder/CEO swore he would never the ZTE and they had a plan B in anticipation of such situations
