AnonD-762416, 23 May 2019It wouldn't work. Any business doing business with Huawei w... moreForeign developers can not be threatened by USA. They can only block their apps in their own services like Google Play or Apple store. But if you create one large enough and good to encompass the rest of the world, USA will be left alone. And if they try to abusively submit foreign developers to put their applications in several stores including one in which Huawei participates along with other mobile manufacturers, the USA will be subject to sanctions from all parts except a few countries that remain as blind allies under the command of USES.

The rest of the world continues to trade without problems while the USA does not stop creating them. An alliance of Asia, Europe, South America can not even cough. And Trump when the thing gets ugly will kick him in the ass the same that put him where he is. It is not impossible at all. In the G20 almost nobody wants to be by his side and that has been very clear in many news and videos.

It'll be take time for sure. But even in Europe, those last moves from USA already has started debates inside companies to pursue designs that don't dependt of foreign patents as much as possible even if it cost more as one they that could even save your business.

I'm sure that in China and other countries today there are a lot conversations about it too.

It wouldn't work. Any business doing business with Huawei would be at risk getting sanctioned. App developers would have to demand to be removed from that store and that store would probably end up being blocked by ISP's.

I do think Huawei needs to be scrutinised more, but I do not agree with a blanket ban like this without any evidence provided. Western countries has laws and standards. A ban without evidence is what countries that we oppose usually do. This is your Trumpism in full effect. No laws, no reason. Just random hair-trigger pot shots in all directions.

They probably go in 1-2 years with HiSilicon selfmade "Risc-V" SoCs that are open source and have a high support in China. While at the same time port his OS "Hongmeng" to that architecture.

Then sell them worldwide and laugh on Trump. Since then they still can use their Kirin 980 and 710. The services and apps are something they could deal offering a shop with half fees than Google Play and Apple for developers. With millions of devices out there they'll be success. The only problem will be more for acomplish something near to maps. But sure that with the help of chinese goverment and their satellites it'll be easier and faster.

And invite other brands embracing open source code licenses in key things will even encourage and form a strong group against USA counters. And for competitions and customers the best forcing lower prices too and more alternatives.

Anonymous, 23 May 2019An Android phone without Google apps and services won’t do ... moreYes and no. I don't like the fact that the current duopoly is entirely US controlled. We need a third system, because it's obviously wrong that a country with 5% of world population tells the entire world what to do.

People outside China will avoid this phone to spare themselves the headaches. This is like buying a car with missing parts that you have to hunt down and assemble yourself to make it run properly. Why not just buy a different brand that works right away? Huawei is done.

SilentAsian11, 23 May 2019Exactly how in the world huawei could make their own chips ... moreActually they *could* (not that they should), using the MIPS cores that have IP already owned by Chinese companies... HiSilicon (Huawei's chip subsidiary) is more of an IP integrator than really a brand new chip designer, so it would take them almost no time to start using MIPS IP instead of ARM. However, let's not be naive here, the performance would absolutely suck -- more so in Android.

Just for comparison, Intel x86 are known for being brute-force CPUs. Despite that, Android doesn't run as smoothly in x86 as it does on ARM. Going for less powerful cores such as MIPS would make an already bad situation even worse.

An Android phone without Google apps and services won’t do well outside China. Seriously, who would want to buy an Android phone without any Google apps and services? Remember the Amazon phone? It flopped. Huawei is done, at least internationally, unless the Chinese government renegotiate with US.

SilentAsian11, 23 May 2019Exactly how in the world huawei could make their own chips ... moreWell with help of Japanese but they may have been working on one in secret they could look toward amd for help if not im down for a phone running amd i mean it would be a fast phone

This will be interesting to see what they can do apple runs on there own app store some android tablets only run Amazon app store. Huawei from what i seen has a well built camera few of there devices can stand up with samsungs. So it would be a shame to see them vanish If they can stay afloat then huawei is truly a good smart phone brand.

Maybe once trump is out of office. This nightmare will end
