Finally, this tech is now a few steps closer to a commercial reality.

Underscreen cameras have become a possibility ever since JerryRigEverything discovered that the underscreen optical fingerprint scanner is just a camera that can picture through the nigh transparent OLED screen and the LinusTechTips video about Linus being in LG HQ to try to play PC Games on LG's see through OLED TV where he went to the back and there are no colored pixels shown at the back. But I think I'll buy that kind of phone in 2 years because I'm getting the Zenfone 6 this year.

One could wonder why companies invest so much time and resources for R&D? They should read comments here instead. Seriously...

Honor Magic 2 has a sliding mechanism, and Zenfone 6 comes with a rotating camera module as well.
And I think the image quality from this under display FFC will be decent to great considering the strong demand for a selfie in China. The consumers won't allow the companies to have poor quality one in the first place.

Trends & Innovations are something that push business / market share of the company. Thus forcing the competitors to follow / adapt.

Lets see if the pop-up is used by other competitors, for now its only with the BBK products.

We should simply give them credit. As a side note, I have a Note8, as I love the S Pen. But that does not mean that I am blind when it comes to these Chinese innovations.

I know its off topic but look at phone's bezel design, reminds me of Nokia N9. I wish xiaomi or oppo use this iconic design in upcoming UD front cam flagships..

blueglue, 03 Jun 2019No, just because you like the brands, Innovative aspects ca... moreIn BBK's case all the subsidiaries are treated like a sub brand of the same company like Huawei and Honor rather than different entities, and all the technologies are shared between them as they are developed. And even if you treat them as being separate, it still doesn't change the fact that Oppo started many trends or did many "first in the industry".
Come to think of it, It used to be Samsung, Apple, Motorola or Sony who were revolutionising the smartphone technology - now it's Chinese companies who are pushing the entire industry forward. What a world we live in.

Infact, there are legal obligations and patents filed separately when companies operate with multiple entities, All subsidiary are treated independent of their parent organization.

VW operates with around 8 popular Brands too. Just because parts are shared, does not mean the Innovations of Audi can be given to Skoda

Why do you think Oneplus flagships heavily resembles ones from OPPO design and hardware wise and they use exactly the same fast charging technology(albeit with different names)? Because technologies are shared between those subsidiaries.

So actually it's somewhat more secure than the conventional selfie camera embedded in the top bezel.
