It's funny, people bitch about this while in the same breath praising Apple's security and lack of need to use an antivirus coz of that. You can't have them both. Either you accept tightly controlled Apple's app installation and checks or have it open and less secure. Coz when shit will go sideways, people will blame Apple, not 3rd party app store, 3rd party unvetted app or their own stupidity. Been there, seen that many times with other vendors.

it would be a good idea if the ios app store followed google play store and offered discounts and occasional free sales for limited time but that will ultimately never happen in the short to long term.

As I understand it there will never be an Android based comparative equivalent as you would be able to drive a truck through it due to the total lack of security / hacking
Blackberry jump to Android was Imo lack of foresight and future planning
Blackberry was negligent in bringing to market until 2013 a phone with a selfie / video call camera, considering the first was the Nokia 6680 in 2006, 7 years earlier and everybody including Apple added this 2nd Camera years ago
Third party apps follow the phone market, so even though Windows Phone OS was a more mature (years) than Google's Android and everyone had a Windows Phone in addition to Google Android, Microsoft took forever to release an Update by which time only Nokia and Microsoft remained on Windows , these manufacturers only released Android
App developers only releasing IOS and Android some also Windows
Blackberry World the app store closes on 12/31/2019 many apps have not been updated
Blackberry us known for its super security, however HMD queues like everyone else for security updates
QNX / Blackberry 10 OS may ultimately rule the driverless cars, but unless or until major manufacturers decide to (if even they can) release a Blackberry 10 version, App developers follow phones.
Fyi the malware that could damage Android should in theory affect Blackberry 10, which hasn't had a security update in over 2 years,that shows the difference
My point is the more Operating Systems there were the better, Google is just mirroring IOS
Just 3 years ago there were 4 Operating Systems, Windows is dead, there won't be another Windows Phone
Blackberry as it was still developing QNX should have stuck with Blackberry, the move to Android makes no sense

What a preposterous lawsuit. Why should Apple be forced to allow multiple marketplaces for iPhones (their own hardware) running iOS (their own operating system)?
Apple is already enticed to allow content through their own app store because its competition (Google Play Store and others) are viable options on other phones. If Apple becomes too strict, then the apps won't be available for iOS and customers will just buy other phones instead because "Android store has more options and more apps". The competition already exists.
This feels like entitlement from the developers' part. And who cares about some baby app? The only babies here are the devs

Difference is that they use data they collect for their own purposes. High security is also bullshit, how else did their users private images end up on internet. I understand that they want to keep their store as clean as posibile, but as one commenter wrote, they are unfair in their practices, and are stealing ideas from developers. They ban an app, and in next update of IOS, that functionality becomes all of a sudden available. I accutaly don't care either way, google or apple, both are monopolies in their own way.

The reason apple are so strict on what goes on their app store is for security. iOS is much more secure than android because apple take more time and money to check apps for malware than google do on their play store. If apple didn't have such high standards for security we'd see a lot more angry consumers. I don't think apple are wrong in this at all.

If they're so miffed with Apples policies, literally start developing for a different ecosystem.
Apple will begin losing developers, and will then voluntarily change policy or will run out of good apps.

And compared to IOS everything is completely free.
