Snapdragon 800 was pretty much the pinnacle of Qualcomm and were close to Apple. It was quite power efficient although not quite as good as its predecessors and what you said is true that it will throttle down on high clock speed. Phones with S800 can get warm but nothing too bad. Nevertheless, the added performance was really worth it.

Shanti Dope, 09 Jun 2019Pretty much every major Android OEM has made a Google Nexus... moreWhy did you even say that? Sony has worst QC, even falling behind chinese manufacturers and google knows that. That's why there is no nexus made by sony.

IpsDisplay, 09 Jun 2019I disagree the current pixels are still giving lots of har... morePretty much every major Android OEM has made a Google Nexus phone, and each of them had at least one major concern, which is saying how little Google cares about the quality of the product.
Now I wonder what it would've been if Sony tried to make at least one Nexus phone; perhaps it could be the Nexus with the least, heck even problem-free handset from Google.

DrakeX, 09 Jun 2019The biggest culprit that caused this problem is the Snapdra... moreTrue. I still have the Nexus 5 and probably a year ago, I noticed how power hungry it really is. The high clock speed is only useful for a few seconds and it will throttle down.
When it came out, there are reviews testing it by cooling it by ice cold water but I never considered it serious.
I think it was a race back then for performance until the SD 810 struck back them hard. If I'm correct, the SD810 can consume 8 to 10 watts which is ridiculous for a phone.

The biggest culprit that caused this problem is the Snapdragon 810 / 808, which is one of the worst SoCs Qualcomm has made (together with the first gen 64-bit SoCs they also made). It had massive thermal throttling and heat issues yet they still released it anyway. Due to that, it can also cause bootloop issues which plagues the Nexus 5X and 6P, LG G4 and V10 (not sure about the others since I haven't heard anything). Manufacturers had to cash out large amounts for warranty issues. This also caused brand reputation to tarnish badly. I don't blame them fully, it's QUALCOMM that needs to pay. Samsung was smart enough to put in their Exynos 7420 for all regions of their flagship smartphones as they were aware of the problem. Even the older Snapdragon 805 or Helio X10 would be more viable.

IpsDisplay, 09 Jun 2019I disagree the current pixels are still giving lots of har... moreExactly. Huawei, HTC and LG have all made phones for Google. But it's Google making all the decisions, the phones are made to Google specs, it's not Huawei's fault if Google tell them to use low quality components to save money

Jaeger, 09 Jun 2019Nexus 6P was made by Huawei, so they are to blame too.I disagree the current pixels are still giving lots of hardware problems

Whether HTC or Huawei both these manufacturers share one thing in common and that's Google and it's poor quality control

Every new pixel comes out with so much issues it's not even funny

Nexus worst phones made by Google pixel even with ugly design still way better than nexus crap.

Yet, I hear people tell me they miss the Nexus devices. LOL!

Poor cameras, displays, and battery life. The 5X was also known to boot loop. The Nexus 6 already raised the prices to beyond $700 so they were no longer cheap.

The Nexus name just sounds better but the Pixel line will always be superior to me.

Let's hope other OEMs will take note and make sure to not repeat those mistakes, in fear of having a lawsuit with a case law that favors consumers. So even if you didn't get a Nexus 6P, this will benefit you.
