It will also have two snappers on the front, taking the total count of cameras to eight.

May I ask why people are obsessed with putting more cameras and do people buy a phone just for the sole purpose of taking pictures only?

It better have a headphone jack and a memory card slot because 8 cameras destroys the old argument that there's no room.

I think if Sony want to do they will make it even better. Just like Xperia XZ2 Premium it has AUBE processor, before that they have the world first stacked Dram camera sensor. For Xperia 1, it has the triple camera setup with OIS with eye tracking AF and deeply develop videography and the camera this time almost development by Sony Alpha team!

Joe, 12 Jun 2019Sony, you don't need 6 cameras in a phone. What you need is... moreXperia 1 has OIS for two cameras.
OIS is useless unless you need shutter between 1/8 - 1/4s.
Not useful for daylight nor videos.

Sony, you don't need 6 cameras in a phone. What you need is better image processing and OIS instead of just SteadyShot electronic system. You already make the best smartphone camera sensors but the photo quality of your phones is pretty bad...

I think sony should make 2 or 3 flagship phone per year, so that consumers can have multiple choice.

Nokia 9 has to process 60MP for each shot also merging them.
                        This is too much data.
You cannot expect it to do as fast as other phones process 12MP.

On the other hand the stacked sensor used by Xperia can read data 4x faster than conventional CMOS.

Anonymous, 11 Jun 2019Sony is doing mobile camera modules like this for Light cam... moreGod safe Sony from Light and i hope Xiaomi too. Their cameras aren't good, can't compete, take eons to process the data without even a near results of what good cameras from recognized brands like Fujifilm, Canon, Sony, Nikon, etc can achieve.

Their Light chip in the Nokia 9 take too much to process the images and only to merge basically because after that the photos usually need to be processed by the Light software and only works ok at day light, at night is a disaster.

The concept in theory sounds good but i'm sure that a phone with a thicker and bigger sensor could be achieve with a proper frame and cover design without add weigh. But for some reason manufacturers are too obsesed to make phones as thin as possible till the point to compromise them in several models that we saw bend in the past and even now.

Perhaps Huawei that has been increasing its sensor size and now with periscope can do it soon, or other who knows.

Anyhow there is room for this phone for Sony, as it'd could be the perfect excuse for them to match the Apple XS Max prices.

Sony is doing mobile camera modules like this for Light camera company. The light computational camera technology was used in the Nokia 9. Xiacom and Nokia were supposed to release more models, including this year.

Full frame can do better shots at iso6400 than cellphones do at iso50.By far.
Even 1" CyberShot puts phones to shame.

Cameras have image processors chips, not just software work like phones.

12MP jpeg file barely pass 4MB. Not even 8 as raw. Since phones do a lot of compression.

24MP raw from Alpha 9 can go almost 100MB.

First ... moreMust be every day yes, becouse the few ones done at night are really mediocre, only one was good with the help of a lot light and heavy post processing through software. Probably due to the Light.... the light is the key. A bunch of cameras only for use them with good light.
