Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 edge aren't receiving quarterly security updates anymore

22 June 2019
The company still plans to issue "regular" patches, but that means the cadence will be slower.

EVERYBODY knew that. Now, after 2, maximum 3 years, EVERYBODY is crying because they won't get new updates. What, like, now you're all surprised?

The Note8 was Samsung’s first $1000 phone, they should treat those of us who bought it with some extra benefits at least.

People moan about android phones getting only a year of updates or up to 2 OS bumps but they can still use the same apps and games with older android builds and ARM SoCs (the non-x64 ones) is still supported by Google Play until 08.2021 (Not that most of you are using these kinds of CPUs, Arm64 appeared in 2015 IINM).
Can you still install new apps if you're using, say, iOS 10?
As for security updates, couldn't care less about them. Don't use public wi-fi, don't save passwords on my phone, don't download shady apps and don't visit suspicious sites, these updates don't change my experience with my devices. Give us solid devices that don't get updates slowing them down after 6-12 months and that's enough for me personally.

S7 is old af. If you have one go recycle it. In all honestly anything that is below 2500 in single core gb4 feels slow.

When are we getting the billions dollar class action lawsuit against the evil Google? It's criminal to deliberately design an operating system for a $1,000 device to become legacy after one and a half year, and a paper weight after three years.
Imagine if you computer was designed like that. Your TV. Your car.
Google shouldn't he allowed to get away with this.

                I'll sell it this week.

every samsung top model/s since s4 receives 2 OS upgrades from the version when it is released, they are at least consistent-for me best at what they promise and deliver, for the rest of the major brands who make devices with android, situation is nothing but a real mess

When a small company like OnePlus can give 3 OS updates, it is rather disappointing to see much bigger companies give only 2 OS updates to its users. I'm pretty sure there are many more S7/S7Edge users out there than OnePlus 3/3T users...

Oh well, at least they gave security updates for 3 years.

So I guess it's safe to say that our S7 edge that cost an arm and a leg back then, won't even gettin' a bonus pie.
Gee thanks samsung! This is great news, keep up good work!

Very disappointing, modern smartphones should be getting monthly updates for at least 4-5years. Look at the Apple iPhone 6, which was released in 2014 and got monthly updates as well as OS updates right up until 2019, with iOS 12 making the device even faster and smoother as well and this goes for ALL iPhone 6/6 Plus models, ALL got the updates, on EVERY carrier and unlocked device, it’s just up to the consumer if they want to update.

With the S7 models not all are even up to the latest S7 update and this will not get worse as the device is older. Yet, one can get a iPhone 7 Plus and will probably continue to get security updates and OS updates until 2021, long after the Galaxy S7 is forgotten about.

Google really needs to fix this, these Androids have such great Hardware, my Galaxy S7 Edge still takes fantastic pictures and videos, the screen is still very good and the battery is still decent, but from a Security standpoint, I do not want to use it as it has fallen far behind in security updates, so I only use it to take pictures for my reviews of newer phones that I compare, I keep it in Airplane Mode.
