symbian may be old. but the old school, PC-like UI with real time multitasking makes the OS really nice and unique. i like their non touch version especially the eseries as it really makes the phone a real work horse.

2626, 06 Feb 2012Given that the Symbian operated phones that Nokia released ... moreagree.

imagine a new non-touch symbian phone with qwerty, 1.4 ghz cpu and a 12 mp autofocus and xenon cam. it would kill all high end devices available in the world.

an oldschool irc user like me won't use any touch screen device. we demand more symbian non-touch like e63/e71 with more advanced features and better cameras.

Given that the Symbian operated phones that Nokia released last year all had low powered, slow CPU's is it surprising that sales have dropped. Phones like the E7 and E6 were excellent except for the silly processors. They really could have put Symbian back on track and still could if they were released now with dual core CPU's delivering 1.5GHz. The N8's successor must be so powered otherwise it will fail. Symbian Belle looks great. Get a move on Nokia. I have no intention of getting a Windows phone. I've had enough of that lot on PC's. Symbian operated Nokia phones could still be great if they had processors that can compete with other phone manufacturers.

Unfortunately the very fact we are even having this debate is hastening it's demise. Who after reading this, is going to invest in the platform now? Is has now become a self fullfilling prophecy.

nokia is not gonna ditch symbian atleast until 2014,coz they need to get a foot hold with windows and has to bring windows to all price point of current symbian ie;from 5233 to n8.this can be possible only after appolo os,whicn support various resolution and hardware.if they suddenly kill symbian everyone will go after android, even elop knows that .

i think nokia has to do sth for itself.making a new OS is the best idea.you dont have to use WP.
why do you want to kill symbian?
Tell microsoft to make an OS for you !this is better.

If Nokia decides to end Symbian, I guess it would also be the end of them being a leader in da mobile buziness. N8 iz by far one of the best camera fonez in da market, even now, after so much time'z past since it'z launch. The only think Nokia might need to work in order to compete iz to improve da processor and da ram and keep da high pixel camera with the xenon flash. I had stopped uzing Nokia but after N8 I don't wanna go back. Unless of course, this newz turnz out to be true. Then I might have to rest for whatever'z out there.
I'd request Nokia to quit their thought of quitting on Symbian. Windows fonez are a "no good". Symbian rocks!

Symbian S60 was reaching the end of its life cycle. Symbian kernel is very capable but the UI layers is very legacy. Both SonyEricsson and Samsung did Symbian phones but gave up. They found it very hard to develop quickly for the platform.

Anyway, Nokia realized this and wanted to migrate to Meego. Then Microsoft attacks and kills Meego in order to force Windows phone upon us. Meego was immature but WP7 is even more immature. There are loads bugs and missing features in WP, but we're supposed to accept that because it comes from Microsoft, right?
