Is the Nokia N8's successor to be the last Symbian device ever?

If this is correct and i've been waiting all this time to upgrade my E7 to a new dual core symbian device, bye bye nokia and here i come I-PHONE.
In this case nokia will soon admit their bankruptcy as they cannot sell WP as they expect it will be many makes before them tried to go all the way with WP and failed hard,
Also nokia was really retarded with their hardware on symbian devices with a CPU of only 680mhz and only 256mb ram, and their Belle really misses a lot of built in features and apps especially push notification for non third party applications.
If nokia was not selling S3 devices this was most probably cos their newest model released was already more than 1 year old.
I hate to say but nokia became losers the day they decided to go all the way with WP and drop symbian.

jon, 06 Feb 2012been a symbian user for the past 8 years and due too the la... moreI'm really tired of hearing people saying WP is not the right way, and most of these people never even tried using WP before making their comments.
I have been using the N8 for more than 6 months now, and the Lumia 800 for about 2 weeks, so I believe I've the right to make some legit comments. Symbian is great, but you guys have to admit that it is getting too old, it's like Windows XP, no matter how good it is and how many "SP" you add to it, it's still very old. Switching to WP with the support of MS will be the biggest right decision Nokia ever made. Symbian just don't have the money MS has, and atm MS is the only other mobile OS company that can fight against Apple and Google.
People who doesn't want to drop Symbian are similar to people who doesn't want to drop Windows XP, and there are still plenty of them on the market.
I keep on reading people saying iOS and WP are not open enough. Well, I can tell you most users don't need the customization that Android offer. What most people want is simple to use, smooth, and doesn't break after you try to "customize it". I've been using the Lumia for the past 2 weeks now and I really like it a lot, even after I had been using Symbian for some time.

The reason why he's rushing Symbian's death is because Symbian still poses threat to the sales of WP. WP keeps getting overshadowed by Symbian even if the latter gets no more promotion at all. It's exactly the same reason why they also killed off Meego.

AnonD-27765, 06 Feb 2012I concur with everything you've said except switching to Android!if Nokia does not release Symbian in GPL, you cannot have any other "free" platform left.....
iOS - no customization... WP - quite the same as iOS, BB - if the next edition does click, it would be only for business.......
So the thing left will be Android.....
Android can be perfected, and if it can port some of the symbian functions to it...it can be really good as Symbian.......

Dont know much, but last day i checked on the Lumia 800....its truly amazingly fast and nippy... the UX feels really smooth. But being an Symbian user for long long time, it would be hard to switch to Windows Phone with all its limitations......
If Symbian is to die, I will move permanently to Android(already owning 2 droids)....but continue using my N8 till it drops dead.....
What I really want Nokia to do is, instead of scrapping the Symbian, please release it under GPL and let the freelancing developers to take care.... there would be enough people in the world who does not need fancy graphics on the phone......

I am truely jealous of SAMSUNG mob!les..... whole world shaked by samsung in 2008 when they launched OMNIA windows mobile.... samsung's star, corby all got the extreme popularity... Everything were ok but in 2010 they claimed the hav made something better than iPhone 4 and that is GALAXY S.... OMG they made another earthquake still they r shaking but its time to give samsung+google a good lesson by nokia+microsoft :) and dnt regret windws phn os its far far better than symbian in user experience grab a lumia 800 nd check urself

Nokia is desperately trying to appeal to the North American market hence their adoption of Windows Phone. By so doing, they're alienating their much larger loyal userbase in the rest of the world who are Symbian and Meego fanatics. Americans might like the new Nokia Windows Phones but Nokia can't definitely force the rest of the world to like WP if they don't. I'm actually starting to like WP. It's fast. smooth and all but not enough to make me want to buy one now. I just don't see it yet a worthy upgrade to my N8.

AnonD-41113, 06 Feb 2012Guys why you people are not understanding the fact???? The... moreYes symbian has reached its peak. Windows phone can do wonders as its a super smooth OS, even IOS is not that smooth compared to windows phone. Since its a new os it has some flaws like no bluetooth file transfer, cannot turn off auto rotate sensors, cannot copy contacts to sim but all contacts will be sync with our mail accounts, no option to see our current data speed etc but lets give ms some time. They will definitely fix it and once done it will be the super cool OS.

You know what they should do? Fire Elop and put MeeGo on these devices. I still can't over how they transitioned from MeeGo to Windows Phone so quickly. MeeGo is AN INCREDIBLY CAPABLE OS. Don't think it's an underdog. It's easily on par with Android, iOS, and WP7.

AnonD-41113, 06 Feb 2012Guys why you people are not understanding the fact????
The... moreThere's not too much more they can do with Symbian that hasn't already been done, but I agree with your reasoning. Nokia can throw better hardware at the issue (just like android), but they're choosing not to because ultimately it fixes nothing.
You also forgot to mention that android is in the same position, so unless google re-write the code completely, it too will suffer similar problems
