Is the Nokia N8's successor to be the last Symbian device ever?

Nokia, you are going downhill! Symbian was the king few years back, Android and iOS were launched, and you chickened out. You could have made a Symbian a real trouble for Google and Apple, but you didn't, and now you are following Apple's footsteps, going on an OS that isn't even open source. I remember what Nokia phones could do, they were miracles at the time. Why haven't you simply renovated Symbian, it could have skyrocketed and the biggest mistake of all was not upgrading S60V5 phones to Symbian^3. I happily got rid of my Nokia and bought Nexus S, because Symbian is so to say "crap". But you let it stay that way, instead of killing everyone with it. My friend has Lumia 800, and I wasn't even marginally impressed by it. I was a hardcore Nokia fan until last year, and I don't think I will be switching to your WP7 phone anytime.
Every you can do, Android can do better. Android can do anything better than you.

Who exactly is in charge of Nokia? Sorry, but if ever their was a decent company that continually decides to poison itself and die, it is Nokia. The only devices (the term we use today Nokia) that Nokia sell in quantity are mainly based on the s40 platform. Hardly a progression. Nokia you SHOULD have gone down the Android platform in addition to other ranges you produce. The Windows devices are little different to other windows devices.....locked into windows. You built your fan base upon Symbian being open source, agree? Your departure from open source is the worst thing you ever did. You could have re-built Symbian into a true competitor to Android, you could have done a lot actually. Your company has totally lost the plot. This is a rapidly changing market, you used to have your finger on the pulse with what is hot and what is not. You used to manufacture stylish devices that were unique.....I see NOTHING original in any line-up you have. You are in prime position to again dominate the market, but to be honest who ever is 'in charge' of Nokia would never work for me (sorry, but that is how I see it), I don't want to go bust!

if this news is true... Then i promise i will never use any nokia phone.. Its like nokia itself doesn't want to make symbian best.. Aahh.. Nokia. You broke my heart..

with this news nokia is going to loose large no. Of fans... I dont understand Stephen elop works for NOKIA or against NOKIA. Every step he takes is wrong. Im presently using Nokia N8 which was Nokia's last perfect device. After that every new phone is just blunder. Nokia should go for android otherwise we will surely hear in future that Microsoft is overtaking Nokia. Stephen elop is doing all this to decrease the value of nokia so microsoft can buy it easily in near future.

For those who never tried Mango, please try it before bashing it!
I have an E52 and N8, and recently got the Lumia 800 to replace the N8. I like Symbian a lot, and got very used to it as well. At the beginning I was also worried that the transition to WP from Symbian would be very difficult. But to my surprise, after using the Lumia 800 for about a week now, I'm very impressed! When I first got the N8, it didn't give me that "wow" impression, maybe it's because I had used the E52 before. However, Mango did give me that wow and fresh feeling. It's also very simple to use, the integration of many functions are just impressive.
None of the mobile OS is "perfect". So please try it before bashing it. I tried iOS and Android with my friends' phones. iOS is not bad at all tbh, but it's just that I was never really a fan of Apple products. And Android is like a copy of the iOS, so nothing really refreshing in my opinion.

Oh i really liked symbian, but Itz time to move on. I dont like windows phone... Symbian is far more better dan any other OS.

It is coherent with my smartphone shopping timeframe, after buying N8 sucessor, i'm ready for Nokia WP8.
No place for sub-par UX android for me.

Just wish they start making phones that looks good like they did in the past. symbian feels great. They should incoprate meego with symbian. It will be out of this world

It is sad to see Symbian go, but there will be no love loss.. I bought Nokia for mostly the design, Symbian in my opinion was an OS that wasn't as polished as it should have been. I LOVE Maemo and I would have loved Meego. I feel that Meego would have been the OS of the future for Nokia. Look at the majority of N9 owners and their positive feedback on it! And how many developers are dreaming amazing apps on the N950! So I say thank you Nokia, but sadly your lack of listening and respecting the customers gives you a black eye to your name...

go to malls nowadays and apple and samsung stores have so many people while nokia, lg and sony sales people are just standing around doing nothing. everytime there is a news about samsung it is about their new touchscreen phone. when it is about nokia, its almost always about their losing their market share or other bad news. maybe nokia is right about abruptly stopping symbian and concentrate on windows phone. still elop should start clearing his desk just in case the windows experiment fail. am just saying. :-)
