14 July 2019
The phone was commercially successful and reasonably well-liked by fans, but it was a herald of the end of Nokia as a smartphone maker.

I bought this phone back in 2009 and it served me so well, used it as a camera which although not great I had learned to get the best of it, and since I didn't have a pc it was my main computing device , mainly used for web browsing messaging , music etc. It didn't have octa coore CPU or gigs of RAM by it it served it's purpose well and this phone could actually multitask. Too bad that after using it for many years the screen went black so in 2017i had to buy my first Android. If Nokia would still make a phone like that today I'd buy it in a heartbeat

Dr. Chillo, 14 Jul 2019This phone was way ahead of it's timeI find N8 and 808 were the devices that actually were so ahead of their time, that even now their are no devices that are so packed with multimedia features like those two were. From usb on the go to maus and keyboard support, from HDMI to FM transmitter from Camera to xeon Flash.

Nokia 5800 (also 5230, 5530) is the phone with tne great display and bad touchscreen. When I tried it, the screen of the first iPhone (and 3G, 3GS) seemed ugly and pixelated.

Excellent series GSMArena!! And a great beginning.

We readers eagerly await further articles under this "flashback" series. And perhaps a crisp 4k video review related to the article by Angie or Will.

                        Keep it up! Kudos!

Hello Life, 14 Jul 2019The points you mentioned are not true reasons enough... Eve... moreMost probably you do not undersrand what it means to install an app on an sd card. Actually with symbian, when you had a card, you would have an option to install did not matter what app, on that sd-card, meaning, by most of the apps, you only needed to place the card in another symbian and you could use the app, not all apps were able to do that, some would install some files on the system partition. That alone is 10 times more advanced then android or ios in 2019. The only problem symbian had, was the more true to desktop interface and funtionality overall (for the newbes) and the fact that was not build to track it's users, so apparently tthe mass and the guvernments did not like the idea of a free from crapp smartphone so the propaganda anti Nokia began quite agressive as android and ios strarted.

Samath N8 808 owner, 14 Jul 2019So, you made an article on downsliding of Nokia, without me... moreYoup, i would throw android anytime in the closest garbage, because it is a garbage system, if Nokia devices would come with MeeGo.Hack, i would sadly abandon Nokia devices if MeeGo would be out but on other devices that have at least a good balanced quality. Sailfish would do for the beginning, it is sadly not to be found near me, nor in my Country, nor close to my country. But well, we all know HMD cannot risc any second now, by trying another System, we all know how with microsoft all went out. It is sad how the majority can force a small group of people to use things they do not actually want, but need, or leave by rules they do not actually agree with and so on.

This article remind me how sad I was because I was one of the Nokia's big fan. I was angry and I am still angry why Nokia was not on the Android's boat in the beginning of Android. I cannot find the answer.

Hello Life, 14 Jul 2019The points you mentioned are not true reasons enough... Eve... moreAt the begining I was using Android (back to 2013), I have only 170MB of internal storage and 450MB RAM on Gingerbread (I spent almost my two months of salary to bought that one LOL) . I always had an issue whenever I instaled some Apps. So I decided to tweak my Android (Using In2Ext, V8 Script, Link2SD etc). It's worked but then My brother steal my MicroSD and my Android was almost finished. I was lucky that it's still repairable after some flashing method. And made me think that Symbian still one step ahead.
About storage, I agree that at the moment its not a problem any further, because phone storage is greatly increased compare to years ago. Even I dont put a MicroSD into my Redmi Note 5, but still using a 32GB in my Nokia 6 2017.
But Still I miss the auto wake up feature just like my old Nokias or BenQ Siemens E63 :D

In my opinion symbian was and is the best is ever made . It has a real real multitasking with little ram it was wonderful . IPhone changed the game I hate iPhone

Nah. rest of data can't be stored on every android phone's sd card. It’s a garbage experience if you don't have A2 level microSD too. Probably stock android still have that feature. microSD cards are slow and ruins user experience of apps/games.

Tonnie, 14 Jul 2019My Android dont allow me to install apps in microSD without... moreThe points you mentioned are not true reasons enough... Even games as massive as PUBG only takes 40-60mb of internal space ,an rest data can be stored in sd card.. And even 100$ cheap phones hav 64GB of internal capacity.. Maybe it was a problem in 2012.. In 2019 it isn't a problem at all.. Your second feature can be done in android
