Weekly poll results: brand loyalty is important, but it's not everything

21 July 2019
Most people do their research before buying. Some look at phones from their favorite brand first, but don't stop there.

I don't change my phone every year, i change it like about 3 years or so, till then the upgrades are worth the loyalty, and once i have it, they're perfect. nothing much to say

well, it all depends if your brand is creating the things you want or not, I've been a Galaxy Note user since 2012, never changed brand, never changed family, didn't even try the S series. for me the note is perfect, everything i ever want.
BUT, damn those huawei phones make my mouth water.

For me, every company gets fair considering. Exept HMD (fake Nokia) and Samsung. I have just one Samsung product in my household (microwave, came with girlfriend) and that's exactly one too much. Out it goes. Sony is my favourite after Microsoft fade. Right now i rock P30Pro, as camera is most important part for me after OS, that i can't choose anymore. If HonhMeng/ARK/Oak/Harmony comes, i will stick with Huawei a bit longer. If not, Sony it will be (IF they get their phone cameras right, finally.)

If I have the money, I will stick with either Sony or LG. But no money hence stuck with Galaxy A50.

For me, the brand of the phone isn't important and the most important thing is what the phone can give me and of course how it looks like

I always go for a BIG display phone and some really good specs, doesn't matter what brand it is, EXCEPT APPLE, had a Iphone once and i never come back... NEVER.

But brand loyalty lol, does anyone actually choose a brand with worse specs, before the super specs in another brand which u dont like... Sounds really, really stupid... But again thats just my opinion and we all are thinking different.... But hmmmm.

              It's just because of iOS

Shui8, 21 Jul 2019Seems like Asus ROG 2 for u. It has enormous 5800mah battery.I read that and it might be but I'll wait for Razer real quick just in case. But yea, ROG might be the winner.

I guess the GSMA Team forgot to mention an important point : Sticking to a phone's brand or showing brand loyalty --as they put it-- is, somehow, stupid, in today's day and age. (Barring quality control issues, of course.)

In the age of Android and iOS

See, whatever little innovation we get nowadays in terms of hardware (not to mention the abysmal pace of it, before pop-up cameras became a thing); in reality the underlying software experience remains the same. 100%. Across the Brands. It's either Android or iOS. Skins might differ but the same app from a third party will work, 90% of times, equally well on their counterparts from other brands, boasting the same chipset/RAM etc. (You are not going to use ONLY those apps provided by the phone brand, are you?)

Another thing is maturity of tech. Even midrange processors have gotten fast enough. Cameras are good enough. Phone screens are even better than living room TVs in some cases. (All of it from a normal user's perspective, not power user).
On the other hand, Software eco-systems are largely settled down too, with no deal-breaking, major, common-sense lacking impediments in them. (like lack of copy-paste in Windows phone's early days.)

Compare it to the times before Android and iOS. Not just the hardware, but the total software experiences varied wildly, and people got hooked to a brand because of these wild differences in overall user experience (HW + SW)

When the Consumer has little patience and inumerable choices offering the same thing, why wouldn't he/ she have enhanced switch compulsion?

Remember, I'm not talking about specific models. I'm talking about brands.

Only Samsung or Huawei for me. Never really liked iphone's ios the moment i had one a few years back, and im not giving apple any chance anytime anyday, no uh. Never really buying into these secure ecosystem talks too. Please no hate, i have my own preferences.

If I stick to a brand, it's because of features and other miscellaneous stuff I know I will likely get. i.e. Xiaomi phones surprisingly have less intrusive ads that can be easily disabled compared to Samsung which just stuff up their phones choke full of bloatware that bring the experience AND performance down.

This can and does change at a moment's notice depending on how good/bad a company's strategy and policy on their new phones look like

"can barely afford even a Samsung ". You know that samsung's cheapest phone has the same price as xiaomi's cheapest phone? So how can he afford xiaomi but can't afford samsung?
A lot of people hates iphones because it lacks custimizations limiting files to only specific apps . Iphones are very locked to apple ecosystem so if you don't have other apple products it will be hard to use them.

Yea...can't stick to one brand anymore. It took LG too long after sealing the batteries that they needed bigger batteries, Samsung (while having fantastic hardware) is ready to drop that headphone jack (as well as micro SD slot for the Galaxy S10 5G version), Sony never learns their mistakes by slapping tiny batteries in all their phones, and OnePlus lacks a lot in terms of hardware despite having the best software.

I'm waiting for ANYONE, to create a phone with either a giant battery (over 5,500mAH) or a removable one (heck, both would be perfect), microSD slot, front-facing stereo speakers, headphone jack with DAC, 2K+ display with 120Hz refresh rate, and IR Blaster. Literally gaming phones are close to getting this done and that's why I'm waiting to see if Razer decides to churn out a 3rd phone.

I was a fan of Nokia keypad series...
They are amazing N series E series

                                      Then I taste Nokia 5333, Nokia 5800 Nokia c6-00
Then suddenly I don't like Nokia.
I never purchased Nokia flagship as I can't afford..
                                      Always use used phones.

                                      After Nokia death.

I tried mi budget phones Redmi 1s and believe me it's amazing experience compared to Nokia 5233 and c6-00.

Only issue for me with Redmi is they have worst Mike on earth....

Sony and LG for me. Always. Had an Xperia XZ, went for an LG G7 fit this time around, both excellent smartphones with high quality design and build, and feature-filled with things that matter to me (like NFC), as well as great cameras and polished user interfaces (although LG's UI needs just a tiny bit more work and polish).
