29 July 2019
The curves on the side of the screen are 88 degrees, bringing the screen-to-body ratio even closer to 100%.

Next step will be curved edges on top and bottom also. Samsung will do it as an answer to Oppo

Great, nice futuristic looks. But it needs an underdisplay front camera, so it won't be available soon. Love it

Also - " It is called Waterfall Screen and is nearing the 100% screen-to-body ratio with ever so tiny bezels on the top and bottom."

Can't wait until some chinese manufacturer comes up with some sort of projection to sides of the phone (something like "ambient lighting" on TVs) and claim it as 120% screen-to-body ratio.

Congratulations, your chances for cracking your screen have just increased by 500%...

Not only that it's f***ing giantic noodle so forgetting it in your back pocket is an instant RIP, now you also need to be extra careful about even slightest drops on the side because once you get it cracked, it won't stop spreading its web. ALSO, if engineers in Oppo are especially sadistic, they gave it a glass back for the """"""""stylish look"""""""" so it's going to be pretty much like carrying a champagne glass in your pocket.

Yeah because we need more unuseable screen estate
            ..

Am I the only one who feel too much curves on screen detoriates it's quality?
Has anyone seen the Change in colour on the edges of the screen?

Great, but why? Is there really a market for such things? Doesnt seems very practical to me

What's the point of this again except being a marketing ploy to fool the gullible and more reasons that the display won't survive a fall?

I still think the only moment a curved screen is good looking is when the screen is off. The gif showing the image galery show how you loose the information with the screen being distorted as hell. Well, not better for movies, luckily 21/9 movies will have black bar on top and bottom. Sent back a P30Pro due to this unusable screen.
Hopefully this trend will not spread too much before I need to change my phone in two years.

karoko, 29 Jul 2019Funny how tech reviewers were critical of Samsung's curved ... moreSame thing i always wonder they criticized and hate Samsung for curved screen and removal of Headphone jacks but they are ok with chinese OEMs not having them..

curved screens, just like dots and notches, eat into content... if i wanted a semi media experience id crack my phone screen or go to the movies....

No doubt it won't have a headphone jack or micro SD and Oppo will blame it on there not being enough space. I also worry about the battery size
They need to make sure the edges are well optimized too.
It is an interesting looking concept though, I will say that

Innovation? Nah. Mate 30 pro and Nex 3 will arrive earlier.

Funny how tech reviewers were critical of Samsung's curved screens while praising the latest Chinese OEM trend. Hypocrites.

Curve it the other way, easier to hold, same real estate.

Actually may be stronge from drops too.

wasox, 29 Jul 2019In its time, many vilified samsung for the curved displays,... moreActually, in its time many vilified Samsung's curved screen. Now? Even more people hate it.
It's bad from the consumer's point of view (pun unintended), but its good from the OEM's point of view (more revenue).

What you need to realise is that this Oppo screen could've had the top and bottom sides also curved around. Then what? Well, now you have a Screen-to-Body ratio that is HIGHER than 100%. Great right? Well, yes for the marketing department and salesman.
...but for you and me, as actual users it's bad.

Think of the LG G6's flat display, straight sides, and Slim Bezels. It's much better to use, thanks too ergonomics. Now imagine if you had a Tempered Glass protector applied on it, straight from the factory... so that screen replacements became trivial. And imagine if the aspect ratio was 16:9 so the device was more compact, and it was reasonable weight so it is easier to handle; far less drops. Now imagine if the rear wasn't a cheap Glass backplate, but something better like Aerospace-grade Matte Polycarbonate, or Scratch-resistant 7000-series Anodised Aluminium, or if it made from Military Kevlar. So its more durable, again, less phone repairs, parts and upgrades, bad for OEM revenue. And to top it off, imagine those Slim Bezels housed all the sensors, Selfie-cameras, and front-firing stereo loudspeakers.

...well, you've pretty much described a near-perfect phone.
It will only require replacement for things like Software, Battery, or if the components become old/obsolete (screen, cameras, processor).

I've always liked watching movies on curved screens, feels like 3D! Also, you'd have to slide subtitles up which makes it even more enjoyable.

There should be an option to turn off edges because moving content makes me nauseous. And that was on the galaxy 6 edge, now this should be next level

from the looks of it, 21:9 aspect ratio, amoled screen, in-display finger print scanner, in-display selfie camera. WOW! amazing times to live by..

I'm not in favour of curved screens. Samsung's curves are not that much (compared to this and say OnePlus) but they also are not practical. It only makes the design look better but shifts the screen colours at that area. REMOVE EDGES
