Anonymous, 10 Aug 2019Huawei hopes other companies use HarmonyOS but it's never h... moreIt is still early days for Nano Cards and IIRC they said it would eventually be opened up to third parties. Not that they 'really hoped' for it to became a standard. Time will tell but they are easily sourced and not too expensive. If you have a Nano Card capable phone and want more storage, at least you have an option.

you say harmony os is 100 times faster than Android but we know Android is fast enough and faster than that is not noticable. success of a new operating system depends on applications and we all know nothing can beat Android play store

Kangal, 10 Aug 2019Honestly not impressed. This whole fiasco was China-Huawei ... morePrecisely why I find this bullheaded approach of theirs (Huawei) as flabbergasting at best... Name it; postmarketOS etc or hell if they're dedicated enough might as well just throw some money, teams of devs and infra to Slackware (I'm not even kidding.God knows PV needs the financial love AND even Slackware has its own ARM porting. Desktop + mobile twofer done and done) or either of all BSDs that's already at it with their ARM initiatives. But noooo...they gotta reinvent the wheel from scratch and clearly want to make a "legacy" while they're at it...Nothing more worse than lumping corporate+nationalistic sentiments on top of patriotic nerds.
Just like every other players you've mentioned; say KaiOS even if they're avoiding from going "full smart" at the moment I mean c'mon if it's good code then it's scalable and adaptable no matter what. AND KaiOS' proven their worth already on the low end of the spectrum that's 1 bird done and stoned.

Honestly not impressed. This whole fiasco was China-Huawei trying to show off to USA-Google, look we are not that much inferior/weaker than you and if you don’t cooperate with us and trade-war we will innovate, and retaliate against you on the international market. I guess in some ways it worked.
But thinking about how far ahead USA is in software: Windows10, iOSX, Android, its no joke. Let alone the alternative/open-source choices we have in webOS-KaiOS, Mer-Sailfish, Ubuntu-SUSE, Tizen, and QNX.
There’s no way Huawei can catch up. Their best chance would be to spend 12 months designing their own User Experience and analysing the ARM-architecture, the Linux Kernel, and the various choices listed above. Then pick out the best pieces from each and everyone of them, throw thousands of hours and developers at it. Then result it in as the Most Advanced Mobile Linux OS.
Stabilise the entire build and make it more efficient. Have it run on various hardware (from the weakest to the most powerful). Debug the whole project so becomes mature/usable. Then fork the build into the barebones system to release as per GPL-requirements, and keep the mainline system as proprietary. Now you’re at version 1.0
After a full year, and after it has been ported to commercial products ranging from Watch, to Phone, to Tablet, to Laptop/Desktop, to TV/Console, and its been updated again for stability, now you’re at version 2.0
And if the Operating System has a very powerful web browser, it can run Web-Apps (HTML), to bridge the gap for certain conditions. However, this is only as an alternative route. Main route of programs will be executed by running natively inside the OS itself: so now you’ve got a powerful and well-fleshed out App system and SDK. Take people’s Apps from various sources and convert them into your own ecosystem for free, and great incentive for the App Market. This leading to the adoption of the most popular +100 Games plus the most popular unique +100 Apps. Call this version 3.0 and you can finally say you’re on the way to catching up to the likes of Windows10, iOSX, and Android.

Adul Al Salami Kebab, 09 Aug 2019The live tiles was far ahead of Android! They updated to sh... moreYou will see that tiles year by year because it can't be changed. It will be so boring. On Android, u can change the appareance of icon as everyone like especially woman and man have different taste. For example, my wife doesn't like the square if the tiles. She likes icon better than boring tiles.
Imagine if what Windows desktop only use tiles also and doesn't have icon. It will be far left behind Mac OS which has beautiful icon appearance.

Search news about HongMeng OS at the year 2012. Use Google or other search engine. Yes, 7 years of development now and more from it was planned and its first code lines were written, not the 2 years that you have invented! The news are in the databases since 2012 and public.

This open source OS can perfectly triumph if it overperformance Android, is lighter but still rich of features and free of all the bloat services and heavy adds and patchs that Android carry since eons.

Right now huawei's market are the world (both China and outside China), why sacrificing their own market outside of China when right now Huawei are top 3 in sales worldwide? Even they could convince their own majority population to use HarmonyOS it might be provide solid foothold for their development, but only locally. And don't forget, months ago, Huawei are actually scared by the possibility unable to use android for their new products that can give severe loss in smartphone market, and even before it happens, we can see lately that huawei's price are dropped drastically in the market and huawei's users are ready to jump wagon.

???, 09 Aug 2019I don't think this will this will end android, bigger more ... moreBear in mind Huawei has the full support of the Chinese government behind it. China doesn't even make an attempt to conceal that as the Foreign Ministry publically endorses Huawei. The very launch of this system got free coverage on state media. I've NEVER seen any other Chinese electronics company get their launch events covered on CCTV.
